Vascular surgery can be a wide topic according to the condition being treated.
It could be the sleiving of an aneurysm, a removal of a section of the vesicle that is diseased, It also could be a plasty, the ballooning of an area of a vesicle, the bypass of a section, etc.
Unless the referral gives more information as to the specific condition there is no way to pin point the type of concern you are dealing with before getting a Drs. diagnosis.

this is an operation on any of the bodies venous system.
you must have been referred to the surgeon by your doctor.
what did you go to see him about? as this is what the surgeon will be looking at.
Some of the operations they do are things like the treatment of varicose veins, embolectomies (clear a blockage from a vein),by pass veins if needed, put stents into veins.
some vascular surgeons also look after some patient who are classed as general surgery. the main thing is do not worry ask you practise nurse for advice. when you first see the doctor he will request some investigation to be done and explain to you what his finding are. best of luck

Vascular surgery is the branch of surgery that occupies itself with surgical interventions of arteries and veins, as well as conservative therapies for disease of the peripheral vascular system. Surgery of the heart, and its vessels is the specialty of the cardiothoracic surgeon. Whilst surgery involving vessels in the brain (eg intracranial aneurysms) is the specialty of the neurosurgeon.

Previously considered a field within general surgery, it is now considered a specialty in its own right. As a result, training has been, or is being re-structured from previously having to complete full general surgery training followed by a period of further vascular surgery training, to being trained in vascular surgery alone from start to finish.
Programs of training are slightly different depending on the region of the world one is in.
Country Standards body Professional representation Minimum Length of training (post intern)
Australia and New Zealand Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Australian & New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery (ANZSVS) 6 years
