Protestant. It is a break away from the Catholic church because King Henry VIII couldn't get a divorce via the Pope so he formed his own church and abandoned the Pope and made himself leader of the church.
The king those days could do whatever he liked.
Catholic means universal which is not true of the Catholicism as they have their own variants of the faith also.

Doctrinally speaking, the Anglican Church is very similar to Catholicism.
Differences pertaining to the Sacrament of Matrimony is one of the things that separates the two denominations. I think the Anglican Church accepts divorce, and/or believes itself to have the authority to annul marriages, when only the Catholic Church (the Magesterium specifically) has the authority to grant annulments. This is "the thing" that separated the Anglicans from the Catholic Church.
Still, despite these hundreds of years of separation, the Anglican has done well preserving Doctrine, better than most other non-Catholic Christian religions.
I believe I will live to see the day when the Anglican and Catholic Church's will be One again.

Good question! What I believed is that the Anglican High Church wants to be in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church but they pledge their loyalty(authority) to the English Monarch instead to the Holy See(Vatican). Till then they will continue to do so and are hoping that someday Canterbury will swathed to Vatican which I reckon impossible. For those in Anglican High Church who wish to be in union with Roman Catholic Church, I would suggest that they moreover to the Roman Catholic Church as the Anglican church will not switch over as a whole church!

1) The Church of England resulted when Henry VIII wanted to divorce and remarry, but the Pope wouldn't let him, so he declared himself the head of England. Anglicans are pretty much Catholics, they just don't follow the Pope anymore. The traditions have nearly stayed exactly the same.
2) The word "catholic" means "universal".
Many consider Anglicans to be their own Christianity, apart from Catholicism or Protestantism, because they did not result as a part of the Protestant Revolution/Martin Luther (not King, different one, German one) /etc.

The Church of England is the officially established Christian church[1] in England, and acts as the "mother" and senior branch of the worldwide Anglican Communion, as well as a founding member of the Porvoo Communion.
The Church of England considers itself to stand both in a reformed tradition and in a catholic one (as in Greek: καθολικός, meaning "pertaining to the whole"):
Reformed insofar as many of the principles of the early Protestants as well as the subsequent Protestant Reformation have influenced it, and insofar as it does not accept Papal authority.
Catholic in that it views itself as the "unbroken continuation of the early apostolic and later medieval" "universal church", rather than as a "new formation". Also some of its members have beliefs similar to Roman Catholics. They are called Anglo-Catholics.

The Church of England is Protestant. Since it is protestant, it is outside of and does not have the authority of the Catholic Church. This means their "Mass" and "Eucharist" are not valid, nor their "priests".

Churches don't have mass.
Mass is not conducted in churches but in cathedrals. Catholic cathedrals. The moment you see the word 'catholic' inscribed anywhere in their texts its evidence of their roots.
