I am supposed to go snipe hunting for the first time this weekend, so I'm gonna borrow my dad's gat. I've been playing Grand Theft Auto to practice, and they hold the gat sideways. Does this help shoot better? I don't hit much when I do it.

Dylan, Mit Romney will beat Fred Thompson.

You need to lighten up kid. Your lack of humor will destroy Conservatism. Also, find a new word to use instead of "idiot". Your writings sound like a clip from "Napoleon Dynamite".

WELL ITS BETTER TO HAVE YOUR GUN IN A HOLSTER AND RIP OUT OF THERE AND FIRE WHEN YOUR TARGET APPEARS, YOU WILL NAIL YOUR TARGET, THATS THE WAY COWBOYS IN THE WESTERNS DID AND THEY ALWAYS HIT. AS FAR AS THE SNIPE GO, YOU WILL USUALLY FIND THEM GATHERED AROUND A HEARD OF WILD HOGS. JUST CHARGE THE HEARD AND THEY WILL SPOOK UP THE SNIPE .MAY SOUND HARD BUT ONCE YOU TRY IT YOU WILL BE ENJOYING SNIPE SOUP FRESH FROM THE FIELD. YUM.

Ignatz,

I assume, and sincerely HOPE that you are kidding. In case you aren't, I'll answer you in a serious manner, in hopes of helping any others that might believe this stuff.

First and foremost, snipe hunting is a fool's errand. Your friends will drop you off at one end of a field, tell you what a snipe supposedly looks/sounds like, tell you they're gonna drive the snipe towards you, then get in the car and leave without you.

As for holding your gun sideways, and stabbing towards the target, this is not only the worst possible way to try and hit a target, it's also a good way to cause your gun to jam.

I suggest, if you're going to shoot, that you take your gun, (UNLOADED) to an indoor shooting range, and take some shooting lessons. DO NOT show up with a loaded gun, don't dress like some kind of idiot rapper, don't act/speak like a gangster. You will be skidding when you land on the sidewalk if you do.
Shut up and listen. You might save your own life, or the lives of others by learning how to handle guns in a safe manner. Now, PULL YOUR PANTS UP! And turn that cRAP music down! If I wanted to hear that, I'd have my ear on a cow's butthole!

NO! that is a stupid thing that punks do to try to look cool, but it really makes the accuracy decrease and it looks stupid to anyone who really knows anything about weapons! dont do it or you will be ridiculed!!!

If you want to shoot better, try to slow down.
make sure you take the time to aim and to line up your target in the cross hairs or between the sight dots on the front AND back. Take in a deep breath and let it out slooowly as you pull the trigger. You might try to widen and stabilize your stance so you wont move or jiggle too much. brace for the shot to reduce the effect of the recoil.

good luck and have fun

p.s. Do you know what a snipe hunt is?

That whole sideways thing is a movie visual impact thing. Try shooting it that way and you can't hit the side of a boxcar if you are locked inside. Snipe hunting is like watching submarine racing; a male bovine excretement term for an excuse to do something else.

It won't help your accuracy a bit. And, the pushing towards what you're shooting is just maybe a new trick in the book of CQB? Anyway this would only help you jerk or anticipate the shot, say goodbye to accuracy.
Shooting snipes that way, i would say good luck. Snipe shooting needs patience...

LOL. Anyway no in real life holding a gun sideways will do a possiable of or two things toss hot metal brass in your face or in your shoe... But realy when fireing a hand gun single handed. You should follow the then natural curve of your arm witch would be a 85-75 degree angle instead of a 90. Just a slight slant.

I see jerks in movies hold pistols in that manner. I see no reason to try it. It is not natural and surely leads to poor accuracy. You already know that you say, so hold your handgun in ways that result in best accuracy. Snipe hunting is a joke hunters may play upon novices.

Using your sights is always the best way when it comes to accuracy point shooting is a last ditch close up shot. Proper two handed stance is preferable for accuracy as well.
