I'm getting married next year. And I wanted to wear a traditional indian sari for my big day has my husband to be is half indian.

What should a women wear on that day? What shall we do, and what should we avoid doing....

If you have any links on gowns and hair/make-up it would be very usefull.

Thank you

Thanks for the links, they're very usefull.

My husband-to-be has indian blood from his biological dad, but he's been adopted...so I don't know from where he is originaly.

And I love the idea of wearing a saree (i'm thin and minute, and european style gowns make me look like a cake) and for me Saree is the most feminin outfit ever designed for women.

Well a traditional langha (which is basically a indianish skirt and a blouse with a dupata) or a lovely chiffon sari. Chiffon saris are elegant and timeless, and are really easy to wear, just ensure that the sari is stiched, otherwise you'll have to pin up the unstiched sari with around 15-20 pins which is hell!!!!

Avoid anything super heavy, because you'll have to move around alot and meet people and you donot want to be weighed down with too much embroidary! Traditionally the Inidan bride wears heavy embroidered items, but if you want to avoid that, go for a sari! ;)

You'll get Lenghas and saris there. Just go for something elegant, and remember, no heavy embroidary!
Cheers.

Get used to wearing a sari. Practice lots of times before the big day! Use lots of pins to keep the sari securely in place.
A sari is elegant to look at but not easy to walk around in. It's very easy to trip over your sari or have it come apart. It happened to my friend while she was getting out of a car, she sat back down and stuffed the whole thing back in, she didn't look too elegant but at least she didn't lose her dignity. You don't want something like that to happen to you and on your wedding day too!
If you can't get used to a sari, a lengha choli is a safer choice.

Your choice is good . Wear a saree on that day and have some flowers on your hair like indian girl with ornaments on your neck and have a nice day. All best wishes for your wedding in advance.

Although it depends from region to region a indian bride is attired mostly in a red sari for her wedding the sari is usually silk sari or a sari with lots of gold n silver embroidery over it.

Gold jewllery is prefred earrings, necklace both short n long a sindoor in the hair, its kumkum(red in color) a big bindi(red color) lots of matching bangles n flowers in the hair.

u can substitue a red color salwar kameez or ghagra instead of sari all three look eqaully beautiful.

frankly speaking the color of hapiness coming on the bride's face makes her look beautiful anyways.

just remembering the time whn i was a bride four months back.

I would imagine there is no law that says you have to be Indian to wear such attire. In fact, ladies who are traveling to some parts of the world are expected/required to wear the native dress out of respect for that particular culture. Therefore I don't think it would be an insult. But just curious as to why she would want to wear something so unusual.

YOUR HUSBAND IS HALF INDIAN . NOW WHAT IS THAT HALF ? BUDDHIST , CHRISTIAN , HINDU , JAIN , MUSLIM , PARSI OR SHIKH ? APART FROM A PARSI OR AN CHRISTIAN WHO WEAR WHITE OR PASTELS , THE OTHERS USUALLY WEAR RED . SOMETIMES GOLD OR GREEN. WHAT EVER THE COLOUR [ LEAVE ALONE THE BRIDE ], NO ONE SHOULD EVER WEAR BLACK . FOR THE MEN, A VERY DARK BLUE IS OK. [ NOT THE GROOM , MIND YOU ] .

A RICH HEAVY SARI WOULD BE THE BEST. AFTER ALL IT'S YOUR DAY, AND A BRIDE SHOULD LOOK LIKE ONE !!!! HAVE A GREAT LIFE TOGETHER.
