The people who feel they have to 'serve' the Lord to recieve their salvation are not true christians anyway. True christians live by the Bible. If somebody feel they have to serve God they are working to recieve salvation. The Bible says we recieve salvation "by faith not by works" and that "all those who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." This shows us that all we have to do is believe and call to be saved.

Good question.
Most people have ulterior motives in everything.
It takes a true Avatar to do good, just to do good, expecting nothing in return.
Others do good so that their reward is returned to them in the long run. Those are good people also. They know that lying will eventually catch up with themselves, stealing, makes things not so precious as buying them, and they will, get caught someday and go to jail and their friends and family all suffer, and that cheating, doesn't give you an idea of how you really are, but what you might want to be. They know that loving someone brings love back to them, full circle. It grows like interest in the bank. It's not bad, it's just common sense, to want to fill everyone in your life with pleasure in just knowing you, they want to care about you, because, you first, gave them attention, patience, love and understanding. They also store up treasure in heaven, and they know it, altho they aren't always aware of it as such. It just becomes a habit.
Anything you do, over time, becomes a habit.
Then there are the pretenders. Ones who show to the world how great they are. How much money they gave, and how big a name they have for philanthropic causes. They have gotten their reward. Their big name and fame. That is not stored up.
Then, there are ones that want instant gratification. Vises like, Sexual misconduct, stealing, lying, cheating, demanding usury (interest) from the poor, drunkenness, all the pleasures of this world that in the long run gives everyone effected, pain.

my friend true christians serve God out of pure gratitude for what he has done for them, not for what will be theirs in the next life. True christians realize that they are the beggars asking for thier sins to be forgiven and are so grateful they want to share that joy. If you come across another group calling themselves christians worrying about thier masions above be wiser to the fact that they are not truly followers of christ. I can see were it is possible we all serve the Lord in some way and its our hearts intent that we are judged by. as an agnostic i understand your view but in my finding with genuine christians this is not the case.
latter thought you know to the middle man seeking wisdom through all mediums; extreme atheist talk just like pompous born agains. both partiers use the same brash sentences judging the other and ultimatley sound like a complete douche.

I would agree that many religious people serve themselfs instead of the God they worship. I honestly think tho that deep down we all do our best in the name of Love and that imo is enoth to please the universe/God. I have yet to see anyone destroyed by the universe or God to the point that they were removed from existance totaly. This suggest to me that people generaly do not act selfishly enoth to warrent any punishment that is eternal. But back to the question yes acting in the fear of hell for yourself or others is wrong imo....

So when you follow the laws of man, is it because you want to do the right thing with all your heart and soul, or are you a little scared of getting caught and sent to jail, where there is the possibility of rape and being killed? I want to go to Heaven, but I know that I don't want to go to Hell. It's on the back of my mind, sure, but I love God, and I know both sides of why I should follow Him.

I'm serving God because its what I want to do.

A great saint composed a verse
"bhukti mukti pisaci.............."
as long as the witch like desire for enjoyment (here or in heaven) and liberation remain, pure love and devotion will not manifest in the heart

It's trust that I have for Him, and love, thanks to Him. The service that He requires from me is between me and Him, thank you very much!
I would agree with you intent, as I see it.

Agree, although most will deny it vehemently stating their purpose is "true" and "pure"
