Every time I cut them they look horrible. I have a bad time cutting the corners that are somewhat in the skin and it hurts.

The healthiest and easiest way to cut your toenails is straight across. If they are short, then DO NOT cut them in a round shape. If they are round, then they will grow into the skin and cause an ingrown toenail, which can get really bad and require surgery. Straight across is the best way to trim your toenails.

Really pay attention to where you are cutting on the nail, have good nail clippers, and try to cut the nail so it is straight. don't cut the nail so short that you are cutting into where it meets the side of your toe.

It's best to trim toenails after a shower or bath or soak them a while in a foot tub to soften them.

It sounds like you are developing ingrown toenails, so you may want to go to a salon & get professional pedicures for awhile to help them grow out.
