It didn't used to be like this. Everything was in English, period. The hispanics HAD to learn English, and they did. Now we are catering to them. I miss the good old days.

I like the other option that I'm waiting for to catch on for those phone calls.

Press 1 - If you understand, and speak English
Press 2 - To disconnect until you do.

I'm from LA, the Municipal phones is more like the movie 48 hours. They have Cantonese, Vietnamese, Mandarin, tagalog and I think they probably added Russian and Armenian. Heck, I work in a place that gets Chemicals from Europe. I get 6 different booklets in various languages on how to use these chemicals. When I need instructions, I have a hard time finding the english version and I end up using the French instead. Also, I called a place once, and English was actually number 2.

Didn't you sign up for those no call lists? There is one for the US and there should just be one for the state you live in. Works great. You don't get all the telemarketers. Certain ones get through like the police for some fundraiser, etc. I don't even bother talking to them, I just say they don't live here and hang up. Or sorry I am not interested and hang up. I don't give them a chance to say another word. They don't call back. I have caller ID. Alot of people have there names on their phones and it comes up with the number. I won't answer anything that says blocked or unknown number, or doesn't have a name with it. That is there problem. I don't mind talking, but don't annoy me with trival crap. Another thing have a tablet close to you, write big and have your friends and family phone numbers on it. Put it in several places where you like to chat. Good Luck.

It is not right that we have "Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish" phone prompts.
Other immigrants came to the US "to get a better life" too but they learned English. Something illegals can't get in their heads!

Well, even in England the options are not solely in English for many phone services. I press 1 and if I feel like it 2. How's that hurting you? Monolingual cultures are boring.

No. Globalization! It is the same way in other countries.
People shouldn't be bitter about it,I sometimes press 2 or 3 and try to improve my Spanish or French instead. It is great! Besides, the companies do that because they want to sell.

If you think that's bad then just wait until they take over Arizona and California to the point that they make it officially theirs.
I walked into a 7-11 just the other day to use the ATM machine to withdraw money and it said: Press here for Spanish
and under that:Press here for English
Everywhere I go I'll get stupid looks for speaking to someone in english because everyone it seems speaks spanish more than english.
And it's becomming harder every day to find a job that doesn't require us to speak bilingual preferably spanish.
Where my husband works he can't even train anyone because none of them speaks english and if they do they 'pretend' that they don't just to piss him off.
I didn't used to be racist but because of the hell we have been put through I"m beginning to think that I'm sick to death of illegals and the crap that they continue to put us through.
I'M SICK OF ILLEGALS TAKING OVER MY COUNTRY AND I WANT IT TO STOP!
I want President Bush to stop catering to them and shoving them down our throats and I want all of them to go back to where ever they came from especially those who hate our guts for giving them a better life than what we ourselves have.
Why do we make their problems our priority when we have our own.I don't care how down trodden the damn Mexicans are in Mexico and how bad their Government treats them. That's their issue to address not ours we have our own problems and we don't need them adding to them.
We don't need their drugs, their crime, their rapists, their child molesting perverts, their kidnappers, their mentally and physically ill and above all we don't need them taking our jobs away from us and causing our Schools and Hospitals to close down.
And we don't need their hatred of us especially when we haven't done a damn thing to Mexico to deserve it.
I'm sick of it really and if there was a place I could go to just to get away from them and be around some good old fashion Americans I would go in a Manhattan minute.
I live in an area that used to be considered a very nice area to live but guess what?
It's now turning into a ghetto and guess when THAT started to occur?
WHEN THE ILLEGALS BEGAN MOVING IN!
That's right the majority of the people who were here when it was a good area have long ago moved away when the illegals started taking up residence.
And since the majority of the residents who reside here are now non english speaking citizens and very proud of their Mexican heritage it's become a dump and an unsafe area to be in.
Even the buildings look like crap when before they looked well maintained and decent.
Lord I wish things would go back to the way they used to be.

fbneon03 e-mailed me last night and said some pretty awful things about ME being an illegal how he has the right to be here and not I.He even called me a few not so polite names.I guess that just goes to show that they really do hate us and think that they own America and we should all just leave and let them have it.
Well I have just one thing to say to that.
Over my dead body.

Actually I find it very annoying. If we keep having everything in English/Spanish then what is the incentive to learn English?
I'm just a tax-paying citizen what can I do, huh?

Yes - they should default to english and you should have to press a selection for spanish.

every time you call your credit card co, and get that routine - just tell the rep to forward a complaint about it. We should not have to request our nations language. its about all that is holding this nation together these days and we are losing even that.
