Here it is, they will say
1. we have as much right as you.
2. spiritual does not mean just religious
3. to enlighten the idiots who believe
4. to learn---that one is noble.
I have asked this before, and its always the same old responses. But I think you and I both know the real reason.
The irresistible Spirit of God.

For some of them, that's clearly the case. But the fact is, the topic is Religion & Spirituality, and so they are here to discuss what they know of the subject. What they know (or believe, since opinion is a valid form of question and answer, too) is in the negative, so that's what they bring to us.
Those that do it with good manners are a valid part of this community.
And remember, it's not just Christians who get annoyed. Anyone with any religious beliefs is apparently fair game for the mocking type.

I would ask you the same question. Why do you come here? If you're so convinced that your beliefs are the only true way, why come? You should be so happy in your belief in Jesus and God that you have no time to waste on YA because you're out doing charity work and helping the starving millions in Africa. But that would be too much trouble, right?

I'm here to push non-faith and on others in the same way that the faithful want to push faith on everyone. I do not discriminate, though, as I love to tell Muslims what pathetically lost and confused persons they are also, so lost in the superstition of the dark ages. I am here to inform you that neither you nor they own the topic of spirituality. I know that you both believe that you are the only people in the entire world with a spiritual nature, but alas, it is but one more of the delusions that you poor souls suffer. I am here to enlighten and comfort you in your confusion in this life, the same as you feel you have something to offer me and also to help you overcome your fears of the boogeyman that you refer to as Satan.

My being here is strictly business. It's just part of my research for a book I'm currently writing: "Religion for Dummies". I'm thinking of devoting an entire chapter to the dumbest questions believers ask. Keep this up and you may get ink.

There are no seperate forums for the discussions of the different religions. All we have is the "R&S" forum, and it's for the discussion of everything related to religion and spirituality, and atheism falls under that category.
All I've done this evening is answer questions from Christians directed towards insulting and demeaning the atheists on this forum. I think you misunderstand who's doing the annoying here...

R and S is about religion and spirituality. I think it is therefore important that people who believe there is no god should have an input into this area.
Don't you think so too?
After all there are hundreds of gods and an atheist believes in just one less god than you do.

Because Atheism is a missionary religion. Go check out the "Rational Response Squad." They want to convert you and make you one of them, just as Christians and Muslims are doing.
They are here because they are a religion that is so deluded that they won't even admit it.

If you want to put it that way, sure, why not? If your god is so fallible, you will be annoyed as well .....
By the way, just in case you do not know, christianity is not the only religion in the world.
----------
Push non faith ..... nah ..... why? But then if every other day, you have some yoga school telling you you believed in evil god (ok, he is evil, but you do not believe it) and that yoga school is the only way to salvation and you will burn in hell created by the master of this yoga school, chance are you will have the urge to educate these people.
------------
Why atheist can't claim to be spiritual? Do you think Buddhists are spiritual? Yet they do not have a god or gods. Do you think Taoists are spiritual? Yet they are only looking for "the way" and no gods are involved (ok, in the later part of history, some people slowly add in the gods). There are quite a few atheists who had known religion, in fact, there are quite a few atheists who were christians who had eventually read the bible.
I know some atheists who are more spiritually inclined some of the christians who claims to love god with all their heart, but acting like as if some devil had possessed them.
----------
How Atheist can claim more spiritual?
Well, first, we have to look at the definitions of "Spiritually"
One of the definition is :
"The state, quality, manner, or fact of being spiritual"
Now, lets look at the definition of "Spiritual"
1. of, pertaining to, or consisting of spirit; incorporeal.
2. of or pertaining to the spirit or soul, as distinguished from the physical nature: a spiritual approach to life.
3. closely akin in interests, attitude, outlook, etc.
4. of or pertaining to spirits or to spiritualists; supernatural or spiritualistic.
5. characterized by or suggesting predominance of the spirit; ethereal or delicately refined: She is more of a spiritual type than her rowdy brother.
6. of or pertaining to the spirit as the seat of the moral or religious nature.
7. of or pertaining to sacred things or matters; religious; devotional; sacred.
8. of or belonging to the church; ecclesiastical: lords spiritual and temporal.
9. of or relating to the mind or intellect.
Now, take note at definitions 3,5, 6,7 and 9.
It clearly state you do not need a god/gods or a religion to be spiritual, just the requirement of being inquisitive and/or being moral.
A person who does not believe in gods, but is kind, good natured, attuned to help people without the requirement for compensation is more spiritually inclined then a "god fearing" person who goes to third world countries on Missionary missions where they literally force the recipients of "their Kindness" to believe in their god before they will render any help.

(it's funny how you guys all seem to think you're the first person to ask this question)
This should give you an idea on why atheists care about religion in general: http://youtube.com/watch?v=w4fQA9mt-Mg
To summarize it, we care because theists have proven time and time again that they are incapable of keeping their faith to themselves, instead trying to impose it on everyone else, atheists included. Many atheists are also justified in saying something like "you started it by calling us sinners and condemning us to eternal punishment and suffering just for not having the same beliefs as you."
You show me a Chrstian or any other theist who keeps his or her faith personal (as faith is supposed to be), and I'll show you a person I (an atheist) have no beef with. I may think their beliefs are ridiculous, but that is my right. I'm sure every Christian here thinks Scientology is ridiculous.
One more point--I don't think religion should be given a 'free pass' when it comes to criticism. Unlike race or hair color, religion is, in the end, a conscious decision. To fault someone for this decision (if you think they've made a bad decision) is NOT comparable to faulting someone for their race, gender, age, or anything like that.
If someone came up to you and told you that they were absolutely sure that aliens teamed up with ghosts to cause 9/11, you'd think they were a fool, I'm sure. But theism has no logical foundation either, hence the term "faith." Please do not forget why it is called "faith." A theist has every reason to EXPECT criticism the moment they start pretending that their faITH is faCT. If someone tries to act like their faith is factual, then people will start demanding evidence, because those are the rules of the game, after all. Things just don't spontaneously become facts--they have to be supported with evidence.
P.S. Less mature theists will claim that if atheists frequent some spot on the Internet about religion, then it's because they're secretly questioning their atheism etc., but if atheists mostly _avoid_ that same spot, it's because they claim atheists are afraid/unable to challenge a theist's arguments. They've got something bad to say no matter what we do--wouldn't you agree that's unfair?

i would have to guess because they have their own beliefs and the place for them to express their beliefs are here in this forum. be more considerate and try not to segregate others. they will "annoy" you constantly when you post attacking questions. how do you think you would respond if i posted a question "why are christians such hypocrits?" do you think you'd not answer? odds are you'd post a pretty mean comment. lighten up! we are all here for answers, to seek the truth. just because it's not your belief, it doesn't make theirs wrong, or less than yours.
