My tooth hurts and I have braces and the rubber bands are right next to it, so is it a cavity?

It isn't black or anything, it just hurts.

I bet there's a 99.8% chance your tooth hurts because your braces are doing what they're supposed to do - shift the holes in your jaw bone so your teeth can move, which hurts.
Still, ask your dentist when you go back in for an adjustment. They won't want you to get cavities from the brackets they installed.

If a dentist isn't readily available go to a mirror and grad a toothpick or something similar too it.
If it is a cavity, when you clinch your jaws you should feel some pain. There will also be coloration. Cavities normally turn black as it eats your tooth away, OR it may be a stain (typically from someone who drinks soda alot). Cavities are extremly sensitive and soft. So take the toothpick and GENTLY poke at it. If it begins to hurt or begins to feel sticky as you poke it, then BINGO, its more than likely a cavity!

If your tooth hurts if you have cold / hot liquids, then yes it is. Since your wearing braces, its possible that its not properly designed to fit in your mouth.
A cavity is a hole that can grow bigger and deeper over time.
As the name suggests, a cavity can be easily felt with your tongue. If you cant feel it, then you have nothing.
Better to getit checked with the Dentist. Your dentist will carefully examine your teeth and may take X-rays. If your dentist discovers a cavity, he or she can repair it.

GO BACK TO YOUR ORTHODONTIST AND HAVE HIM/HER TEST THIS TOOTH FOR A CAVITY.
