tattoo around the stomach area or hip area...

I have a tat on my stomach that I got when "I wasn't going to have kids". Now I have one son and my tat went from 2 1/2 inches tall to about 5 inches tall. It's now faded and doesn't look good anymore.

But it will only do this if you don't give your skin enough time to shrink. Gradual weight loss shouldn't have that much affect unless your losing 100lbs. or so.

It depends on how much weight you lose and where the tattoo is. If it is on your shoulder, upper back, your ankle, or the middle of your lower back, it isn't very likely to change too much. However, a tattoo on your hip, butt cheek, breast, or especially your stomach WILL morph, and you may not like the results. If you have a lot of extra skin, the tattoo might sag a lot. The opposite happens when you gain weight; the tattoo will move and stretch and fade. So, think about this carefully when choosing tattoo placement.

I have a tattoo above my belly button that I got about 15 months ago. About 2 months after I got it I got pregnant (yay!) and I was soo worried it would stretch and look funny. I took really good care of it and put lotion on it 2 times a day (bath and body works has this great stuff called stretch mark solution... and even better- it smells like chocolate) and I had my baby 4 months ago and lost mostly all of my pregnancy weight (from 115 lbs to 205 then down to 125) and my tattoo looks fine. I made sure my skin was well moisturized and taken care of and it had good elasticity. I barely even have any stretch marks too.. :) My advice is if you know youre going to gain a lot of weight drink a lot of water and use alot of lotions, especially with vitamin e.

yes, as the skin moves so does the tattoo. Try taking a picture and then crumple it up. See the wrinkles, now when you get wrinkles that is what will happen to the tattoo.

A friend of mine had a tattoo of a rose on her breast, then she had kids, now it is a long stemmed rose.

Same friend had a tattoo of a dolpin .. well lets say it would be hidden from view when she is dressed, but in a bikini (if it was low enough) it would show. While she was at a Drs appointment one of the ladies helping get her situationed comment on the nice whale she had as a tattoo. It was a DOLPHIN.... I had to get stiches as I had taken her there and was sitting in a chair at the head of the exam table, I fell backwards and bonked my head on the window frame (metal) just 4 stiches but worth it at the look of the assistance face when she was told that.
