First and foremost, please do not listen to Barb Outhere, you or anybody else or you may DIE! She suggests tripling your resting heart rate so if you have a 80 heart rate, you should go to 240? you'd be dead before you reach that number!!! And then she goes into +300 heart rates? what planet does she come from?
To get the right intensity, you should get the number 220 then deduct your age and then multiply by the intensity, like 60% or 80%. Let's say you're 25 years old, then you deduct your age from 220 (220 - 25 = 195) then calculate 60% and 80% of 195 (117 to 156 heart rate).
So, to answer your question...
Cardio used to be aerobics....
Just think of your heart and how fast it beats every minutes.
Any exercise that will make it beat faster is cardio.
Basically, when you exercise, you have three main things:
1. The stretching
2. The Strength training or weight training or weight-bearing exercises or resistance training, whatever you want to call it. (you don't even need weights if you do crunches, lunges, push-ups...because you're using the weight of your own body)
3. The Cardio (aerobics) which should give you a good sweat.
You stretch (after a litle warm up) to be more flexible and avoid injuries.
You do strength training to built muscle mass, get stronger and higher your metabolism so you can eat more without getting fat.
You do cardio to burn calories and get your heart pumping (walking fast, dancing, bicycling, whatever you like) so your heart get stronger (because your heart is also a muscle and the more you use it, the stronger it gets).
Doing cardio at a low intensity (60%) will make your body start using your fat reserve after 20 minutes of so...if you have any to lose, go for it.
Doing cardio at a high intensity (80%) will make your body release endorphins (endogenous morphine) that will make you feel very good...better than any antidepressants...and it's free and legal!

Cardio is short for cardiorespitory system. So a good cardio work out is one that taxes that particular system. It is any work out where oxygen is the energy source. And this happens when the stressor placed on the body is a min or more. You should cardio at least 3 times a week for 30 min if you want to sustain your current fitness level and weight. 5 times a week for 30 minutes or more burning at least 300+ cal per session if you want to see any sort of body adaption.

Cardio exercises are those that raise your heartbeat to at least double the resting rate. Triple the resting rate is even better, but does depend on what your resting rate is beforehand. (If your starting rate was 80 there is no problem going to 240, but if it was 110 going to 330 would be too much!) The fitter you get the lower your resting heart rate, and the better you can exercise. Best to do cardio for 20 - 30 minutes a day, 3 - 5 times a week.
Cardio exercises include running, swimming, aerobics, bike riding, and most forms of dancing.

Cardio is basically exercise that require you to use oxygen for a prolong period of time. Cardio can be attending a combat class in the gym, do any of the crosstrainer, threadmill in the gym for more than 20 minutes or so. Simplest form would be to briskwalk round your neighbourhood. Key to sucess in fat loss is consistency, doing things that need to be done, not doing things that only you enjoy. There is no such thing as a miracle pill or diet.

"Cardio" refers to any type of exercise that works out a person's cardiovascular system or oxygen delivery to the heart and lungs. Such exercises include: walking, running, biking, skiing, rowing, hiking, and swimming. These exercises will raise your heart rate and get it to a point optimal for burning fat.
