And you can't get a word edgewise. They are totally absorbed in themselves. They'll change the subject on something they want...how do you control the situation tactfully?

LOL

Sounds exactly like my partner's mother.

Nothing you can do about it. When we visit, I take a crossword puzzle with me or go for a walk.

If someone interrupts me with a question, I tell them "I'm getting there!" and keep going. If they interrupt with an observation of their own ("That happened to me!") -- well, it depends. If it's a friend who does this a lot, I totally ignore the comment and go on with what I was saying. If it's someone I don't know well, I let them talk -- but I'll never GET to know this person well, because then I'll avoid them!

yes i hate that because they change it so they can talk about themselves. i know a lot of ways to do it.. lol but tactfully.. hm, if they are talking about themselves, dont act interested, start looking away, look at your cell phone, pretend there is something intruiging on your fingernails/hand. then they know you are not interested. maybe at the end say, 'are you done? ' just to get the point across better

Yes, its so annoying. Im unable to say my opinion most of the time. They butt in whenever you are in a middle of a sentence. With a different subject, and expect you to follow. Some people are just plain jerks sometimes.

In my experience, there really isn't a tactful way to handle this. Just let them go on (and on and on...) and then politely excuse yourself from the conversation. I've gotten to where I avoid these types of people because I know how rude and boring they are. There's really not much you can do.

Well I'd love to chat, but I have other obligations (such as giving myself an enema for fun). I'll catch you later.

Stand there, cross your arms and let them babble .
You can't change it, go with it and just feel sorry for them .
