I'm 20, and I work in a restaurant (the biggest gossip mill industry), and a cute guy started working that I developed a crush on. He and I talk somewhat frequently about nothing in particular, and I got to the point of almost asking him out when I found out that he is only 17 (I thought he was 18). Should I just remain acquaintances with him, or is this age difference nothing serious, and should I ask him out?

The age of legality in my state is 16, for those who keep commenting on waiting until he's legal. Thanks for all of the answers!

you can if you want to. see his reaction and response to your asking him out. you've got nothing to lose, right? by doing that, you could also find out if he's the "same frequency" as you are. if he is, then age shouldn't be an issue. when you are out, try to observe how he behaves around you, is he interested in you etc. if he isn't, it's alright. it's great being friends sometimes too. good luck! :)

Since you are at work together you probablly arrent seeing all of who he is. He is a younger guy and chances are he is immature. Not knowing him I could never say. If this is a job that you need to keep you may not want to put it on the line. If you are in a position where you are over him leadership wise than dont risk it, I am sure that there are many other guys you could get, workin in a restarant you probablly see tons of hotties. I personally like older men, but thats just me.

No i dont think you should stay away and thats not really a big difference i know alot of couples with that age difference, but i think it would be better to maybe wait until hes 18 to think about asking him out, but until then you can always flirt, drop hints..etc.. and kinda let him know and maybe him make the first move... . Good luck!

I've been in the restaurant biz since I was 15 (I'm 34)... my advice - DON'T DO IT! It is a difference and it does matter. Think about where you go that he isn't old enough and won't be old enough for YEARS. It wouldn't be worth the hassle, believe me, I've been the 17 year old (and 16 year old and 18 year old, etc. lol)

He is too young. It's not the "legality" issue but the maturity issue. You need someone who is at least 2 years older than you.

depends what country you're in. if he's not legal...he's not legal. doesnt matter if its 24 hours apart.

another thing....ladies usually dont ask first...the men do. he might think you're desperate.

he might say yes to...its like a 50/50 thing....

but anyway, you're both really young still. & since you see him at work a lot, thats all you know of him. who knows what he's like off time.

he might wind up being gay for all you know....(but then you'd have to fend me off he if is. i love gay men. LOL)
