My friend is missing her right arm, and two fingers on her left hand. She has never had a boyfriend. She is very pretty, and really sweet, but she worries that she won't ever date because she is different. She admits to overreacting, but wants to know if it's possible for her to find a guy in highschool, or if htey are just to immature to look past her differences. She says she is "semi-attractive" and wonders if the only reason she's never had a date is because of her arms. I tell her it's not, but she's still depressed about it sometimes. Tell me, is it just because boys are immature at her age? (She's 14ish), they mature, then don't care about that stuff, so would you give me/her your opinon? (I'm telling her the answers I get from this question tomorrow, she wants the honest truth though)

You're talking about something purely superficial. That's not something that would matter to me. Of course, while getting to know a person like that I would ask about what happened, and if they weren't born that way, how difficult the transition was to be able to learn how to manage with the lack of an arm and a couple fingers. (Medical technology, how people heal and adapt are things that are fascinating to me!) But all of it would likely be a testimony of strength to me.

It's rare to find a boy her age to look past her siutation. Most people are shallow in the early stages of life, it's normal for those boys to feel that way. As she gets older she'll meet more mature guys and begin to like men (not boys)! Her personality will play a key role to compensate for her handicap situation. Also, if she is pretty/semi-pretty like you both say, she won't have too difficult a time to get guys noticing. True, it's unfortunate to be in the predicament she's in, but it will make her strong and confident as she goes through the growing pains and matures herself. You seem like a really good friend to her, she'll need your support...

Well, I'm not a guy, so I'm switchin' it around and imagining dating a guy who is missing his right arm and two fingers. Yeah, doesn't bother me--a missing arm, leg, whatever doesn't make the person who they are. Your friend is going to find there are many immature people in this world. But you know what--I think your friend should embrace all of her qualities, because confidence is a beautiful thing.

I think she'll have an easier time meeting men once she's out of high school. At her age, so many people are worried about blending in, and would be too scared to date someone different. But I don't think it's guaranteed not to happen in high school. There are some special guys, who don't have those hangups, even at a young age.

She may have some trouble until she gets older simply because guys do not muture as fast as girls do. She will find someone beautiful most likely with flaws of his own.. (we all have them) Tell her to hold her chin up.

I would date her, I have had many "different" girlfriends in the past, with much worse conditions. I am 13 also.

I hate shallow people. It's a "yes" to dating her. No disabilities could separate true love!

No. I honestly will not but that does not mean that another person won't. The truth is that, there is a man for every woman.
