I am going to MEPS tomorrow for Navy Corpsman. I'm hoping to go to Radiology Tech "C" school later - but I know they wont guarantee me that.

However, CAN they guarantee that I don't have to serve in Fleet Marine Force? Maybe if I say, either that or I walk out? :/ I have asked my recruiter this question several times and he continues to beat it into me, that FMF is optional.

Sounds like you really don't want to join the Military with the post you listed tonight, did you really think it through? They need people but they can only give you so much. If you do sign on the dotted line thank you for serving, but if you don't , just support our Troops any way you can.

nicely there tyypically there'll consistently be a choose for medics. you purely run into those circumstances in case you chosen an incredibly unique MOS, like protection tension Intelligence. There are purely any such great form of slots in the army for that MOS. Or extreme point telecommunications, the place there are purely 3-4 instruments iin the completed military. There incredibly isn't the rest you may ask for. you will do AIT at Brook military scientific center on feet Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. then you definately'll bypass to Bragg for bounce college and maximum probable stay there and get assigned to the 82nd. With a Bachelor's degree, make confident, you're going into the army as an E4.

Normally you have to select FMF at MEPS, but it depends on what the needs ot the Navy are right now. If you want the "C" school you are asking about, be the number one student in your HM "A" school class.

ok, navy "C" schools generally are reserved for e-5 and above.

im sorry but the likeliness of you even seeing a C school before you hit second class is definately slim to none.

no they cannot guarantee that you wont go FMF.

also, it sounds to me that you joined the navy almost as a sure deal you wont see the desert.

well, maybe if you picked a topsider rate, or engineering rate - but corpsman are needed over there.

you picked the wrong rate if you're trying to avoid the sandbox.

My son faced such a dilemma. Don't join any military service that can't provide a guarantee in writing of the training and job you'll receive. PERIOD! To do otherwise is to sell yourself short. The Air Force will provide a guaranteed job. Your part of the deal is to make it through training without failing the school. Get it in writing or NO DEAL!

you're gonna threaten to walk out? You think they're gonna follow you and beg you to stay? you're going to MEPS. You signed a contract. you're obligated. And you're an idiot. They will send you where they need you. Plain and simple. You can't demand that they not send you anywhere. Most Corpsmen I know would kill for an FMF slot. Maybe you should join as an admin POG and let everyone else do the REAL work.

Just a quick comment about George C's remark. You aren't obligated until after you sign that big long contract on the day that they ship you to basic training. That little piece of paper you signed at MEPS the first time you were there is just them trying to make you think that your already obligated. But also in reference to George's comments. They will send you where ever they please. They can even change your job to cook if they want, so make sure you think long and hard about it.

if your recruiter tells you it is optional then it is likely optional...i doubt you could get something like that in your contract if it is something so special but all you can really do is ask tomorrow when you go to MEPS. once you're there they are going to pressure you into signing but unless you really want to do not do it if you are not satisfied with your results of what you see in the contract. they don't have to guarantee you that but, its up to you to sign.

I was under the impression that corpsmen were basically marines. They're not going to put that you don't have to do something in your contract.

stop being a pansy. you are asking what you can do to serve your country, stop saying no when they tell you it is serve the FMF.
