Could any Christian reading this KILL someone for their beliefs? And, if so, would we be any different than the maniacs flying airplanes into buildings if we did? "Suffer not a witch to live"-that is in the Bible-but I could never kill someone for reaching God in a different way than I do! There are things in the Bible that bother me sometimes.

hebrews 1224 asks, "You're not part of his family anyway, are you?" I wanted to answer this question--if we are God's creation then we are all part of His family. And yes, I consider myself a part of the family of God/Godess. Also, I'm not sure why you would tell me to "get over it"? I asked a question and left it open to answers from all Faiths. Maybe you just didn't like this question being asked--?

It wasn't always there. Before the witch hunts it was 'thou shall not suffer a poisoner" (some texts say murderer, but it amounts to the same thing) It was changed then to further the cause against witches. But even still, I get your point. How does one justify murder, for any reason? The bible also says "judge not, lest ye be judged". If you decide someone is worthy of being murdered, not only are you killing (against the ten commandments), but you are also judging. Thank you for such a good question

Ex. 22:18 is where this verse is found by the way.
Deut 18:10-12
10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch ,
11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
KJV
This kind of answers your other question also. Anyone or anything in the old testament times that would pervert the wisdom of God and turn his children away from him, were killed. Kind of like the way some people wouldn't mind killing the rapist and the child molestors and the murders of our times. He is a protective Father, get over it all ready. Your not part of his family anyway are you? Just be thankful He is sitting in the seat of Grace right now, because eventually He will get back into the seat of judgment and then the whole earth will know that He is God. Enjoy your life.

They bother me too. That's why I don't choose to follow the Bible. Jesus didn't write any of the scriptures so that leaves men who were not God writing that book. I don't follow men so I don't let the Bible or men rule my life. It was formed to support the power of the Church. Witches weren't allowable to the church just like anyone who isn't a Bible believer. If you don't believe, you can't be controlled and they don't want you around. It is very unfortunate that men have read the writing of other men and decided that God was telling them to kill anyone outside the church. No, you'd have to kill me too if you sent me off in such a mission.

Christians have been killing people since they became Christians, calling themselves Christians and claiming a Religion for Power and Control over people just to protect themselves from committing evil.

If a Witch is a Witch because he or she is "Psychic" and everyone is "Psychic" wouldn't it be easier just to kill everyone ?
Like Joan of Arc and what about Jesus ?
One a Saint and a Spiritual Master so many more in history Burned at the stakes, Hung, Crucified, or be Decapitated

Just some food for thought LOL

Don't take the bible literally!! Don't read the OT as anything other that an interesting set of stories to convey some spiritual truths to the Jewish people. Of course a Christian should not kill a witch or anyone else. This is why the Episcopal church says we look at 3 things as the basis for our faith. Only one is the bible, the other two are holy tradition and REASON. God gave you a mind and he expects you to use it.

OK, let's think reasonably about this for a minute...

When the religious leaders brought Jesus a woman caught in the act of adultery and reminded Him of the OT law that such a person should be stoned to death, what did Jesus say? "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." -John 8:7

Does that qualify any of us to cast the first stone? Are any of us without sin? No! "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us." -1 John 1:8

Also, remember that Paul encountered more than one sorcerer in the book of Acts, as well as a servant girl who "had a spirit by which she predicted the future", and Paul did not try to kill any of them. And, neither should we!

That said, I do not agree that people who practice witchcraft are simply "reaching God in a different way." According to God's word, the Bible, those who practice such will have no inheritance in the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).

That's somewhere in the Old Testament, not binding on Christians. And not followed by anyone these days in any case. Parts of the Bible were written three or four thousand years ago by people who were just starting to grasp what it meant to worship a God who valued ethical behavior. They floundered a bit from time to time.

When was the last time a Christian killed a witch? I think you're digging pretty deep. Pagan's have a bad history as well... looked into them lately? Almost every religious or belief system has some sort of historical flaws. Time to jump into 2007!!
Enjoy the ride...=)

Re: Homosexuality and Leviticus. There's certain laws that were "carried over" and mentioned again in the NT. Homosexuality is described as a SIN that will keep you form entering heaven, other cultural and hygiene laws that were in affect for specific purposes got thown out, as it was no longer necessary...
If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination." (Leviticus 20:13)

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived, neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

Okay, my new response to people who take verses from the Old Testament out of context, here goes. Old Testament Laws kinda do apply to us today, unless the New Testament gives us a new or different understanding, and/or does away with them. Such would apply is this case as well. Anyone with good hermeneutic skills would know that.

Yeah, join the club! Those contradictions are why I left the church 20 years ago. I have asked questions about the bible and the contradictions and was told that I should accept what I'm told on faith alone. Couldn't do it!
