I was at a family gathering and my six year old cousin asked me to tie a balloon for her. I tried but couldn't get it. I tried for a full five minutes and then did the unspeakable: I gave up and asked someone else to do it. By doing this I taught her bad values (i.e. quiting when the challenge seems insurmountable).

I failed her and I am so ashamed. I have never been more ashamed of anything in my life. In what way do you think I can make this up to God and set things back in order? I'm willing to do whatever it takes.

I am not joking and surely not trolling. Yes, I know my thinking is unusual..perhaps even a bit weird. But this is how I am.

You also taught her to ask for help when something is beyond your ability.
You taught her humility.
You taught her interdependence.
These are all positive lessons.

I think you can make it up to God by calming down and not freaking out about such a trivial situation! I can honestly say without a doubt in my mind that your cousin will NOT grow up to be an unmotivated, lazy loser just because you couldn't tie her balloon and admitted defeat.
If this type of thing is seriously your biggest concern then I think you are doing pretty good, but chances are you have a lot of other things in your life that you could work on to please God.
Relax and God Bless!

oh come on get over it!!! many kids do no that you are not spider man!! or God or whatever. so just explain to her the fact that you could not do it and to tell her the importance of getting help when you need too because as we all know some times the best way to overcome something is give to to someone else! Remember to emphasise still the importance of Never giving up AND not NEVER QUITING! you can quit without giving up! and thats what you did!

Are you serious, or just very very young? You tried to help your little cousin. You couldn't tie the baloon (often a tricky project - maybe it was a little overinflated?), so you got help and as a result, your cousin had what she wanted. Nothing unspeakable there. No bad values. Relax.

If this is what constitutes your greatest failure in life, you are either very successful or very timid. It is okay to ask for help when you are having trouble with something. We all fail, many, many times. My advice to you would be to not freak out about it so much.

What's wrong with teaching her it's okay to ask for help if you need it?

Don't you think it's a bit unrealistic to try to pretend that no one ever needs help?

The important thing was that the goal was reached. Try to look at it like that.

Too much angst over a freaking balloon. Believe me, she doesn't even remember it. It's not like she is psychologically scarred for life now, is it?

the reason you sense shame is in view which you concern what human beings think of of you. the only thank you to triumph over it incredibly is to renounce worrying approximately what human beings think of of you. basically continually be your self and settle for the indisputable fact which you're you.

Your a troll, right? Any rational person would just let it go, not a big deal. You haven't ruined her life... I am sure you are a troll.

You should have let the balloon go and let it go "PPPPPLLLLBBBB" while spinning all around.

I'm waiting with bated breath for all the serious, solemn answers you're going to get for this one. :-D
