You're right on! It doesn't matter if you believe they're fact or fiction. One is based on the power of god and the other is based on the power of self. The failing to see the true issues here is people are trapped in the letter of the law and can't see out of the box. If nothing else , it's a crime and a crying shame to see trees made into books being burned for any reason. Peace and Love>

It was probably a 'symbolic' act, and if it happened in America, remember that America is supposed to be a free country. Americans throw all sorts of things away, including books. So that was probably a symbolic destruction. Books don't have feelings, you know. hahahaha.... I burned a book one time, but that doesn't make me a 'book burner' type. I am not for censorship, which is what 'book burning' really means. Truth be known: censorship is a fact of life in mainstream culture. Think about how many books are NOT in the libraries, and how many the mainstream publishers sift out and never publish. There is *book bias* all around us. Libraries and Bookstores, for instance, are biased in their book choices. Is that book burning per se, well, it is when you know that book burning means *censorship*. Book bias is censorship. What they did was a probably a symbolic act. I, an adult, checked out the Harry Potter books from the library and I did NOT think that they were ethically sound. I actually think they promoted some pretty unethical ideas, ideas aimed right at a child's vulnerable mind. I would not have wanted my children to read the Harry Potter series. Would I have burned my children's Harry Potter books. Most likely, no, but I would not have promoted them having noticed the addictive behaviors that they elicited in young people. I also would, knowing what I know about them, made sure I was involved with my children in assessing what exactly was in those particular books they were reading. That is a parental duty. Just because it's a book, or a popular book, doesn't mean it's a good book. Sola

Everyone should be able to read the fantasy novel of their choice. Bible, Grimm's fairy tales, The Andrew Lang Fairy Books. or Harry Potter the uses of enchantment and the heroes journey can teach us valuable lessons on how to deal with life.

It's not even real witchcraft. Good counterpoints though. If the bible came out today Xians would be the first in line to burn it.

Agree - more kids are reading because of the books.
Also disapointed, cause I used the books to teach moral issues to my daughter. Boget spells also works for bullies.

What I love is when they say that it's Wiccan propaganda. Read some, people, that's not made by one of your own.
I live in what we who read HP call the HP book burning capital of the nation, Georgia. I fight hard for these books, for my right to read whatever I choose.
"Did you ever hear anyone say 'That work had better be banned because I might read it and it might be very damaging to me'?" (see the link below)

ok.. Jesus' power to raise people from the dead, cure diseases, ect. was power given to Him by God.
witches get their power through evil.
and im a Christian and im not against Harry Potter. i like the book. just because it has witchcraft in it doesnt mean im going to go and practice it. the people who are against reading it has their own choice, just like you have the choice on whether or not you want to read the Bible.
