of course christians are people, i just think that everyone has a problem with any person of any faith that act as if they are better than others and impose their religion on them. i'm sure most people on this earth are nice, it's just a few that ruin it for everyone else, especially those that share their faith, and many can be found on here (not referring to you).

I think it's worse for Mormons. Does anyone realize that Mormons are just "people" like everyone else? They're just trying to abide by their beliefs and faith. There are obnoxious exceptions to the rule, but most of us just want to get along with the rest of you.... heh. That's how I feel anyway.

Sorry but when will moderate X-ians realise that they are judged with the same tarred brush as the Extremists. Not fair, I agree but them are de facts.
I try to respect other faiths - & rarely get have it returned.
Wait until the Extremists try to destroy your family, scar your children & you wonder why people judge the whole faith as one?
In Australia our PM instructed the Moderate Muslims to "control" the Extremists. Maybe if you want a less than raw deal, try "control" the X-ain Extremists.

hi kaliko,
i think that people are influenced not just by their own experiences, but also by media and other loud voices in our society (educators).
so even if they didn't themselves meet an obnoxious Christian, they have heard of them or have heard others say that Christians are obnoxious.
it is a growing and dangerous stereotype that is creating prejudice.
i think the best thing we can do as Christians is to just try our best to love others as Christ did. He was firm with the hypocrites who didn't speak out of loving hearts but out of a desire to have power. He was gentle with those who were humble.
So, I think we need to be humbly gentle to those who are humble; humbly firm to those who are hypocrites.
It's hard, huh. And yes, I think the Mormons have faced some similar prejudice.
In a way it is good for me as a white person to face some prejudice because so many people have experienced that and it gives me more empathy and understanding.
Hope you are doing well, btw. :-)

It really depends on the question.
If you ask: does your non belief change your family's view of you, and did you feel different when you realized you were an atheist. - that is a question to seek answers. but if you ask
Does your family think your going to hell cause your an atheist, Are you afraid of going to hell cause your an atheist. those are not questions, their an imposition of a specific religions ideas on you and your personal life.
It really depends on the way the question is stated.

I have nothing in particular against most Christians. I'm not a Christian because I don't believe in it, I believe something else, not because I have any animosity towards the religion in and of itself.

I beg to differ. If Jesus was concerned with not offending others, having everyone like Him, or His quantity of friends, then He NEVER would have made it to the cross. Jesus said Himself, "the Truth will always offend." This world is not my home, heaven is. I'm here to be one of the voices, along with some of my brother's and sister's in Christ to stand in the gap for Truth. Not to make feel-good, let me scratch your itch conversation. Jesus said, " He who is not with me is against me." I will Not stand side by side with those who are against the Lord at the expense of His Word.!

They are people who are used, and people who try to force their belief structure on others.
Not the majority, but the minority is very loud.
