From even before the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) the sacrifice of troops would have been in vain if there had been no live soldiers to carry on the battle and defeat the enemy.

I just hope Americans don't spit on the American soldiers when they return from Iraq like they did with Vietnam vets--even though both wars were lost & immoral before they began.
