I think most people are aware of WINTER Seasonal Affective Disorder which causes depression during the winter months when the skies are grey much of the time, but how many are aware some people get severely depressed during hot, summer weather, the kind of weather that MOST people call "beautiful"?

Yes. It's much less common than the winter SAD and the symptoms are usually the opposite. Winter depressions usually involve increased appetite, weight gain, lethargy, excessive fatigue and sleeping much more than usual. Insomnia, decreased appetite, weight loss, agitation and anxiety are usually seen in recurrent summer depressions. The causes of summer depressions are more obscure than that of winter ones. Some researchers believe that some people's brains are particularly sensitive to the increased heat and sunlight during the summer.

Yeah, I'll miss the long sunny days to, but at the same time I love the snow and don't mind trading some sun for snow. Sure it's a drag to go to work in the dark and have the daylight gone by the time I get home. For many the shorter days will cause depression, but who really wants to rely on the weather for their happiness. I love the crisp clear days of Autumn, and sunlight glistening on the trees with branches so heavy with snow they nearly touch the ground, Ah there's a lot of beauty in the fall and winter. Did you know the man who wrote the the song 'I'm dreaming of a White Christmas' was a Wisconsinite who moved to Hawaii? What would life be without seasons? Boring. Besides, I find people much more fulfilling than the weather. You know there's nothing quite like having a hot cup of coffee with a friend you love on a cold winters night. Maybe add a fire in the fireplace. Am I depressed about winter? Naw, bring it on.

Well, I do get depressed any time of the year, but when it's the summer it's a different kind of depression. It's this anxious uncomfortable can't sit still depression. In the winter depression almost feels good like it's peaceful compared to what happens in the summer and oh don't even talk about the fall!

I am not aware of it but I am making a self diagnosis. I hate the hot weather, unless I am in the pool. Sweaty make-up smeared face and funky armpits are not my cup of tea. I live in South GA too. It is so HOTTT!

I've known people who prefer gray rainy days so I guess you can prefer gray short days of winter. Try spending your days indoors and more of your summer nights outdoors.
