Thanks to everyone so far, I'm looking for a bird hunting gun (to be used 200 rounds a year), I currently have an 870 for duck hunting and an old Fox side by side that I use dove hunting, just looking for something a little nicer?

You need to be more specific if you desire an accurate answer.

Are you using it for; trap, skeet, sporting clays, or hunting? I realize this is the hunting section, but this seems to be the place for all firearm related questions, so I must ask.

The answer can vary. If you want something for once a year hunting, or three day a week pounding of competition clay shooting. There aren't a lot of high quality o/u's under $1k anymore - there are some, but not many.

And to the above, there's nothing special about an A5! Pure junk! ;-)

Take a look at CZ (link below in another answer), or an SKB if you're looking for a new one. If you don't mind a used one, look for a Remington Peerless - its a really nice gun for $1k - go to Cabelas website, into the gun locker and search for "Peerless". They had a couple floating around. You could also look for a Remington 332 field. These will all make fine hunting field guns. Also, I haven't priced them, but there might be some Ruger or Berretta field guns (new and used) for around $1k - those would definitely be worth a look.

There are very few new O/U guns under $1000 any more, I got a Weatherby Orion for $750 from a gunstore that was going out of business but I shot skeet for years with a Browning BPS (pump) and still shoot it the best. You might lucky on gunbroker.com.

Update: There is a Beretta 686 on gunbroker for a but now price of $995 with 2 days left. Beretta's are excellent shotguns

Check out www.cz-usa.com

Click on the "products" option and then click on "shotgun"

They offer four O/U shotguns, ranging in price from $536 to $1200.

I'm no expert on O/U but I have read some nice things about the shotguns. CZ also makes rifles and handguns. I've had a couple of their pistols. Nice guns, good quality.

Ithaca by far is the best over and under... I have the Trap, Skeet and Field Models.. Pick up a used one because I don't think you can buy a new one now for under $1000 Dollars. Let the other guy pay the new price and you can save $$$.. I buy all my firearms used all 22 of them Rifle, Pistol, Revolver and Shotgun. NO REGRETS HERE...

I know I will get a lot of hoops and hollers from the Yuppie crowd but the Browning A5 was the best shot gun ever made. Screw the O/U crap, If your going to hunt get a real gun not a show piece.
