It's a tricky thing claiming infallibility for a book written during our intellectual infancy. Paints one into a nasty little corner. Nowhere to go, I suppose, except to re-interpret, re-interpret, re-interpret.

There are no Bible verses that are out of context in the Bible.
People may take scripture out of context because they are unaware of what they are doing.
Gods Word is true and complete and there is no need to fix it.

You are on the right track. Just as taking verses out of their literary context allows one to make them mean just about anything, reading the Bible without acknowledging its linguistic, historical, cultural, religious, literary and other contexts is just as bad. A healthy does of Biblical scholarship would dispel a lot of nonsense we hear about the Bible these days.

I just wanted to say, I'm glad you didn't let them keep you away :)

And to your question, "yes"!

So that yahoonazis are happy :)

BTW - do you know Dan Barker? He used to be a pastor, is now an Atheist and wrote a book "Losing Faith in Faith." He gave me the best advise ever for the "out of context" dodge. When someone says that its out of context, ask them to put in IN context. Cause I would love to see the context in which chucking rocks at your child until they are dead, is moral.

the Bible was written thousand of years ago..in Greek, Hebrew and in Arabic..so over the years the translations have change the "inspired by the Word of God" as these modern day translations are taking a lot of God's word out of context..through Prayer and reading of the Word of God the Holy Spirit tells us the message God wants us to have..
