Hi,

One reason is that in many different areas of life, there are talkers and then there are doers. Some people talk a good game, but when it comes to the facts, there are less people to be found. But I don't think that it is always because people just want to talk a lot. I think that often times, especially with regard to this business, that many young people don't realize what it really means to become a working actor.

By that I mean, what it's like to hit the pavement every day, going to classes, working a part-time job, submitting for auditions, finding an agent or keeping in touch with the agent you do have, doing mailings, drop offs, writing cover letters and post cards, trying to meet casting directors, networking.

That's the actor trying to get a job and then there's the one who already has one and who gets up at day break and works long days on the set, with lots of down time between scenes, going to rehearsals, etc.

There's the actor who is working steadily, but who barely makes enough to make ends meet, because he/she has to piece work together: a commercial here, a play there, a day player role on a soap, a one day shoot for a prime time series, while at the same time continuing to audition, keep in contact with her agent and take class! It can be exhausting. This kind of life isn't for everyone, but because most people are impatient, they throw themselves partially into it, and don't do their homework, without realizing what it really means until they're in it.

In addition, many actors have to work part-time or full-time jobs, because they don't have a stream of income that enables them to have the flexibility to be able to concentrate 100% on their time on their craft.

The last answer hit the nail on the head. You need talent! Even though unfortunately not always the best actors get the work. That often comes down to one's ability to promote him-/herself. In addition to talent you need a strong character, clarity of what you want, perseverence, drive, determination, the ability to deal with rejection, a plan, creative skills to think of new ways to promote yourself, the ability to keep yourself motivated, good business skills, discipline and you need to be self-critical and always want to get better, which means you need to study continuously, which brings us full circle back to talent!

Not everyone is cut out for this. Some finally realize it after they have gotten into it and seen first hand what it means.

That's my two cents.

Good luck to you though!

Oh gosh, what a great question!! Going for it means getting out there and getting experience any way possible, starting out in the most unspectacular fashion, in the worst possible working hours, doing the least fun roles and auditions imaginable. Then, hopefully, you have time to practice auditioning. You tape yourself, watch yourself, get coaching, take classes or participate in improv groups. You watch other people in shows, hoping to be able to talk to someone who can help you step up your opportunities.

You smile all the time. You work all the time. You get your confidence not through immediate success, but through experience. You take criticism like a mosquito bite, and remember that applause lasts for mere minutes, compared to all the hard work you have to do to get it.

That's going for it. I've worked with hundreds of actors and aspiring actors. How many have really gone for it? Really worked for it? About half. And they're back within a year.

"If you can be happy doing anything else, do that instead." When I was younger, I had aspirations of Broadway just like everyone else. I never got there, but the experiences I've had and the time i share with those I work with now give me the rewards I really wanted, but didn't even knew existed. Just be ready to work.

good singers understand a thank you to hook up with songs, sense the 2d, very like approach appearing. So in that admire, many singers do have already got a brilliant of actors in them. although, actors who turn singers are not going to be any sturdy in the event that they are in a position to't sing before everything. So actors who turn singers are unquestionably worse.

It's very, very, difficult to become a working actor, one needs talent, luck and a great Talent Agency behind him or her.
