I have a butterfly tattooed on my lower middle back, it has some color in it (blues, yellows, pinks, greens, purples), but it's kinda faded. I'm Italian and want to have the colors of the Italian flag done over those...is this possible? I've heard white doesn't show up anyways, much less over already done colors? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

No, white does not show up, most artists use it mainly for putting highlights in a tattoo. And it definitely will not cover up anything. Usually for a cover-up it needs to be something with a lot going on, roses make great cover-ups. They can hide a lot of stuff!! I work in a tattoo shop and suggest roses for covering names all day long!! The petals and leaves can be made to work with the existing tattoo and cover it pretty good. But no, white won't do it!!!

If You Don't Want To Completely Cover Up Your Tattoo,
Then The Only Way to Cover Old Colors Would Be To Use Really Dark Colors,
Such As ( Navy Blue-Black-Deep Red ) Etc,
White Barley Shows Up I Got White As An Outline On Angel Wings An Its Quite Hard To Really See,
So Your Best Bet Will Be Keeping It The Way You Already Have It Or Re-doing It Good luck.

You cant use white as a cover up, and white looks good for a couple weeks then it starts to fade. Maybe you could get an Italian Horn or something somewhere else instead. Im not saying the flag cant be done. Im just saying that it wouldnt be as vibrant as Im guessing you want. But you can always talk to an artist and get their opinion.

You could be the only one actually covering them (happens at my work all the time, I don't bother worrying about the tiny tattoo on my ankle because no one sees that part of me) or your boss could be picking on you. If they didn't state it clearly and in writing for the dress code when you started then you don't have to cover your tattoos if no one else is being requested to. And if others are being asked to cover their art, offensive or not (like my works policy, simply states no visible tattoos) then the company needs to put it in writing before they face a serious law suite. Ask your coworkers with obvious tattoos if they have been "asked" to cover their works of art. If so, then you need to cover them but make note to the appropriate people that it is not in writing to cover tattoos. If your coworkers are not being requested to cover up then file a complaint if anything else is said without general action to all who happen to be tattooed being told the same thing. Over all, be polite about it. Making a fuss and being the trouble maker wont be any better. Just ask questions and go through the correct people. Personally, I don't see why it matters if you don't work in customer service. I do and it makes sense to require tattoos to be covered. Hope it works out for you.

Very sharp colors whites, bright yellows and very dark colors can become distorted depending on the color of your skin, I am very fair skinned and white doesn't show up very well for very long on me :( Now for a cover up that is going to be harder because of the other colors behind it as some of the others have suggested get the butterfly touched up or find something else that can incorporate those colors you already have.

Only black can cover a color, if you tried what you're talking about, the colors will get muddy.
I have done many a tat with white and they all still look good,
it all depends on the artist and the ink that is used.
The butterfly sounds like it could use a touch up..............
why gamble, just get your Italian one some place else?

Well I can't say white doesn't show up because I just had a cover up and white was one of the colors used and it showed well and I received a lot of compliments.
