Why do people do this? Is there some reason besides it being the most logical?

Most people put the headboard against the wall, and have pretty much been conditioned to sleep with their head against the headboard.

That being said, I have my bed along the wall with the headboard towards the door and sleep with my head at the foot of the bed, next to the air conditioner in my window.

So it just depends on the shape of the room and other things, I guess.

Well my reason is because I have no headboard I have a frame on my bed but no headboard so I sleep with my head up against the wall so my pillow doesn't fall off the bed.

Facing the wall: ugly bed partner.
Not facing the wall: wants some from their ugly bed partner.

A lot of reasons:
e.g. you can mount a reading lamp on the wall, many beads have headboards but no footboards and if you are a tall person you can hang your feet outside.
A bedside table is better placed by the wall - you won't throw things from it when passing by

Same reason people sit with their backs to the wall, not the door, in a restaurant. To see someone sneaking up on you, I suppose.

Never noticed that.
But currently, how my bed is set up in my dorm room, I am not doing it.

Maybe its just a preference thing.
For me what determines where my head faces, is the location of my TV

I don't. But maybe it's easier to get in and out of.
