Being a Seabee's is a great way to learn a good trade in building and construction. The school is located in Gulfport, Mississippi and you learn all the required basics. Because Seabees usually provide their own defense when working in a hostile area, you will also qualify in basic marksmanship and self-defense. Seabee units can serve anywhere in the world that they are required. A BU has a very physical job - if you are interested in framing work or actual construction, that might be for you. However, there are always Construction Mechanics (heavy machinery) or UTs (utility plumbing) Electricians...etc etc. I think it's probably one of the most underappreciated and yet most rewarding branches of the military, from an "outsider's" point of view. Before we were married, my husband traveled all over the world - Italy, Spain, Greece, Cuba....the list goes on. Seabees are such a tight knit branch that everyone takes care of everyone else and education is a huge part of this branch. Good luck!

SeaBees do overseas rotations just like everybody else. I believe the West Coast units do overseas duty on Guam and Diego Garcia. I'm not sure about the East Coast units.

Being a Builder would be a very physical job. You'll be outside working in the sun and rain.
