Hermosa beach (2 miles south down Manhattan Blvd) has the hopping bar scene & the Comedy (and Magic) Club were Jay Leno performs (by the hermosa pier). There is an awesome bike & skate path that goes from PLaya del Rey to Redondo Beach which ends at the Redondo marina & pier, fun zone and fish market. There are shops & restaurants with in the 3 block square of MBch around the pier; at the end of the pier is a small aquarium. You can take hang gliding lessons in El Segundo by the Scattergood steam plant (Vista Del Mar by airport); there is surfing & the beach (may be cool tho'); there is a jogging path along Valley/Ardmore if you jog. There are 2 smaller malls (both on Sepulveda and Rosecrans one on either side of Rosecrans). There is a climbing wall, although I am not sure if that is open to visitors; there are beach BBQ pits at Dockweiler Beach and at Polliwog park up Manhattan Beach Blvd (the park also has free concerts in the summer); the Bristol Farms on Rosecrans has wine tasting seminars, and its nice to just stroll about.

The beach there is great. You are in close proximity to Redondo and to get to Venice you have to go all the way around LAX which is more of a pain than you need. Lots of good clubs and bars in town, the area behind the beach goes into a hilly section. Good skateboarding. Lots of hot girls. Go with the flow. You'll love it.

I would body-surf and go to Venice Beach and buy more Cheech and Chong shirts. I'd also go to a good head shop.
