It was gory, but so was Christ's suffering. He suffered for allthe sins in the world, past and present. His blood was spilt for us and the forgiveness of our sins. The movie did a great job showing His suffering and it takes a heartless person not to feel anything while watching it.

"Do you think The Passion of the Christ was "gory" or an accurate depiction of what Jesus went through?" - Yes.
"And did it have any impact on your walk with Him?" - No.
"Also, was it a catalyst for any of you coming to Christ?" - No, born Roman Catholic, and content.

The gore depicted in THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST, barely scratched the surface of what Jesus actually went through.
Psalm 22 reveals some details.
Isaiah 52 also
52:14 literally, "so marred" = "unrecognizable as a human."

From talking with people who are history and/or "military" buffs, what we saw in "Passion" was pretty accurate. The bible wouldn't have mentioned all the gore cuz the details would have been pretty well known at the time. It would be like describing someone making coffee.
Did it have any impact on me? It reminded me that even with all greatness that came from the event, it was also a time of profound physical suffering. And it made me realize what a sacrifice it was for Jesus NOT to say "okay okay, stop, I'll do and say what you want."

Your an Atheist, so why would you think it would be real. Don't you think if God wanted to he could have forgotten the torture in His life and we would not have life after death. The depiction of the Passion of Christ was as close to what could have happened, but multiply it 1,000,000 X worse or more and then it would be real. Now you can give me the thumbs down, you think I so richly deserve. Yes, I am a Roman Catholic Christian and I believe Jesus suffered worse in this way, to save us all. God bless you. You'll believe it when you get there! Jesus answering this question to St Elizabeth of Hungary, on what He suffered, "Be it known that the number if armed soldiers were 150, those who trailed me while I was bound were 23. The executioners of justice were 83; the blows I received on my head were 150; those on my stomach, 108: kicks on my shoulders, 80. I was lead. bound with cords, by the hair, 24 times; spits in the face were180; I was beaten on the body, 6666 times; beaten on the head 110 times. I was ruffly pushed and at 12 o'clock was lifted up by the hair; pricked with thorns and pulled by the beard, 23 times; received 20 wounds on the head with thorns of marine junks, 72; pricks of thorns on the head, 110; mortal thorns in the forehead, 3. I was afterwards flogged and dressed as a mock king; wounds on the body, 1000. The soldiers who lead me to Calvary were 608; those who watched were 3, and those who mocked me were 1008; the drops of blood which I lost were 28,430." This about covers it don't you think. He even knew how many drops of blood He shed, because He is God. As listed in the Pieta Prayer Book.

I think it was both gory and an accurate depiction, from what I've read. (yes, I saw it.) Crucifiction and scourgings were brutal and savage punishments and public displays that few can even imagine today.
By the standards of that time, a beheading, electrocution or hanging would be fairly tame. These displays were meant to frighten the populace into submission and act as a deterrent.
It is hard to imagine a person willingly going to his death in such a manner.

The problem with the movie is that it is "gory" but what you have to understand the pain of Christ, they could not show the full pain he took the sin of the world. No man could have survived one year of sin and he took thousands of years, how can a film make show this. The gory you see is to make you think. I felt part of beating but not all. I hope to live my life more as Christ would want.

I think it was pretty accurate. I think it was probably a little worse than what was portrayed because I think the Lord would have also been sick to his stomach and possibly have lost some control of bowel or bladder. I am so sorry for him and if I was there I would have tried to help him somehow maybe but, I am sure I would have been more like the Magdalene

I'd say it was as accurate as man could make it. Even the Bible says that He was unrecognizable after the beatings. Right off hand I can't remember where in the Bible, but if I had to, I could find it. It had no impact on my walk with Him at all. Just made me realize how much He suffered to save the world.

What do people expect? The Bible says that Jesus was the most marred man alive. If you study it out, you'll see he was extremely messed up by the scourging and beating.
I believe it was one of the most accurate depictions to date but I'm sure it was even worse than that in real life. After all, He was taking the sins of the world on Himself.
I had seen this movie shortly before I gave my life to Christ. God was tugging on my heart and when I saw this movie it moved me in His direction even more.
