It's not the cat dander that people are allergic to - it's the saliva the cats use to clean themselves. When it dries it becomes airborn.
Call a vet and see if they have a washing solution that will neutralize the saliva. My vet in New Orleans used to sell one but she's not there anymore ;(
The walls can be washed with the same type of solution. It won't harm your paint - just take away the stuff you're allergic to.
Cat hair has barbs on the ends and it sticks where it falls. It is very difficult to get it out so the best thing is to make it harmless.
Febreeze makes an Allergy spray my son uses and that also helps a lot.
All in all replacing the carpet will be your best bet.

I don't think there is cat dander in your carpet, its something different. Usually when the cat is gone, and you have cleaned, deep cleaned, the carpet the dander should be gone. You also metioned the walls too, so that might also be a source. It is not your carpet that is giving you this allergy. There might be a different source, mabey dust or something from moving in at this time.

Go he drug store and get some antihistamine to start, then rent a steam carpet cleaner and get the appropriate shampoo ,or if you can call someone professional to shampoo the carpet but make sure to tell them about your allergy this way they will use the proper stuff ,then wash all the baseboards and walls with water and vinegar, and breathe!

Clean the walls and buy febreeze to get rid of the dander. You will have to have the windows open to allow the dander out. This was a problem for me too. It takes time to get rid of the dander. Take some bendryl in the meantime, sorry. I hope this helps.

Get rid of the carpet. If you can't get rid of the carpet, call a professional who can clean the carpet thoroughly so all traces of cat fur will be gone.

i would hire a pro to clean the entire apt and then re paint. it isn't just the walls but the woodwork and vent system that has the dander. they make vent filters that can be put inside the covers to prevent things from getting in too.

you have stuck yourself with a money pit, you have to replace the carpeting and the flooring under it as well as have the walls cleaned and then painted. I suggest you sell and get something else.

No but I would sprinkle some arm and hammers pet allergen carpet powder every single time you vacuum and see how that works.
