he has asked me to marry him.i really want to believe his stories about the viet nam war;but he says it was rescue/recovery and there is no verifiable information available to prove the validity of this.Rangers...do what?he says they blew up munitions dumps and 6-men teams rescued a high ranking official dignitary.he never parachuted;hit an officer when he was 18.it was either go to jail or join this operation.it just all sounds so strange to me. i am not familiar with this topic at all...he is a black belt; i know.he has scars on his back that he says is shrapnel...any info. would be appreciated.i must know the whole truth about this man. i love him; but an concerned;as i know there are differences between all military operations.i need info. from from a veteran who has actually "been there".thanx...he was not a 'seal'; i know that.

This is strange...if you love him and are going to marry him why the need to verify what he tells you? Do you not trust in what he says? If this is the case your marriage is doomed. Sorry

You didn't give much detail, but what you wrote sounds plausible. Rangers blow up munitions dumps and do extractions. They go in by various means, helicopter insertions are common enough, parachuting is trained for but not done much. Scars on the back from shrapnel is possible.

If he talks about killing, I'd be a bit suspicious. Those that actually returned fire would rather not talk about that, except with someone they know who has also been through it.

Few Rangers go through SEAL training. Ranger is Army, SEAL is Navy.

I will tell you one thing for sure. If he's not at least fifty years old, he wasn't there.

"it just sounds so strange to me." I think it is more than strange. Like the others said look at his separation papers. He should have something from his service rat holed away you could see. Pictures of his friends from then, etc. I have meet several people who claimed to be in special forces and were not. Generally if you ask them questions they answer with a question. If you have doubts now it will only get worse. If you can not trust him about this you can not trust him with anything.

Another Steven Seagull type wanna be,

I dont believe a word of it, rescue and recovery more like rest & relaxation, why would Rescue & Recovery be blowing up ammo dumps??

Ask to see his discharge papers, if he hands you crap about being t"op secret need to know" the statute covering all Viet-nam missions has been lifted and all operational details avalable to the public.

But he sounds like a wanna be to me

When you get separation papers from the Army they list all medals & foreign service units on what we call a DD-214... separation papers. Mine lists I Corps Special Troops & the number of months I served in an out of country unit... strangely it did not list stateside units. You could ask to see his DD-214 as that should contain all special units & citations he was awarded.

if you have doubts about trusting him don't marry him. otherwise ask him to show you his dd214, or awards. that may help you get some history.

why don't you believe him?
