So, You are agreeing that God is everywhere....
Then what is your problem?

If God is everywhere WHY HE SHOULD NOT BE IN AN IDOL?

Is there any such God .....who is everywhere except in an idol?

In ancient times, idolators believed that the making of an idol essentially caused the God in whose likeness it was cast to manifest in a more "real" way. They also believed that God was everywhere, but that an idol sort of focused Him more in one spot (like a lense). In that way the didn't need church buildings, because God could quite literally be in the living room on the hearth whenever you need Him.

Why exactly God outlawed this practice is something for more learned theologians to debate.

Have a great day!

Hi!

Precisely because God is everywhere and everything and everyone, and our minds can't grasp the full extent of Godness, many people put their concepts of HER into the compact form of an idol, just as someone new to science would have to start off their understanding theory by theory until they had build up a useful model that their mind could begin to comprehend.

Good wishes.

God might be everywhere, but it might be difficult for u to bow down before a table and pray as God. It is just for your ease that God is shown to u in the form of an Idol.

Although air is everywhere why do we fill it in the tyres. Air has function when we keep them in tyres.

What could be possibly the mystry behind Idol worship when all know God is everywhere. If we feel God is everywhere should we start to look at him. We will be more confused than focused. To focus our mind on God we want something easy to concentrate on. So we turn out and focus on the Avataras, saints, Godmens, Apostles, on those who have attained God.

Hope u got the spark.

To use the argument that humans can not perceive God in any other form but idol is bad.

Have you so little faith.

When i pray i feel the holy spirit within myself, I feel myself connecting to God.

I do not insult the one true God the divine leader by imagining him as a statue.

Hindus your hearts are in the right place but to worship an idol is not a deep connection with God.

Read the Guru Granth Sahib and what Guru Nanak said it will .help you to understand better.

Books are everywhere then why do we believe that only Geeta, Koran or Bible are the holy books of God? There is so much place on Earth, we can pray anywhere then why do we build temples, mosques or churches? We do so much activity during the day but why do we consider only prayer amongst them as our effort to reach God? God can only be symbolized through various objects and Idol is one of them.

I don't know what your faith is but I don't idols. As you say God is everywhere but I see people's concepts of God. Look at the people around you, what do they look like and the people on television with that many faces I can not see what God would look like. What I see the spirit of God or satan.

this is the best answer that has appealed to me from Shri Sathy Sai Baba.
In algbra you suppose the value of X.
Once having found the value of X we no longer need it.
It is difficult for an average person to relate to an abstract form and idea. An idol fullfills this temparary need.
In finality we have no disagreement with islam in that respect !
Among many names of God there is one that is "NIRAKAR" NIR= no and Akar= shape. Therefore, no shape
I can elaborate but will become rather lengthy.

It is one way of practicing to feel his presence. When the idol is in front, you at least at that time try to see him in that idol. Elsewhere you see the world only, atthough for a true devotee He is everywhere.

The Catholic reasoning behind statues and pictures of Jesus I believe is this: Yes, God is everywhere, but we, as humans cannot perceive that, so to focus our attention and to give us a symbol of Him, we use statues or paintings. It is a way of focusing our minds and hearts upon God. That is also the reason for the music / architecture / incense, etc. It is very symbolic and it is sensual triggers to help us to focus upon that which we by nature have difficulty perceiving.

Hope this helps
