Hi I'm 23 and have a problem with shaving... It seems really no matter what I do (except trimming my beard to a 2 day growth) I have a problem. When I shave with straight raiser my face looks a likes its broken out with pimples (but usually only on the neck) and when using electric it still gets read there on my neck. I'm not sure what could be done as I've tried several recommended things by my doctor and various dermatologists (pre-shaves, after-shaves, lotions, cleansers, etc.) but as I stated trimming my beard to a 2 day growth seems to be the only solution that's been working, but with that it seems I can only trim it about 2 days a week. I would love to be able to maintain a near clean shaven face, even if I would only be able to shave 2-3 days a week. So if anybody knows of any solutions and/or what could be causing my problem please let me know...

Sounds like you are experiencing razor burn. Are you using the same razor? You will need to disinfect it each time you use it and don't reuse the same blade beause you are re-infecting your face again ad again.

I really think you should give yourself at least 3 months with the 2 day growth length, before you clean shave again. Your skin needs to heal.

I also suggest that you wash your face with a shaving brush and liquid cleanser rather than soap. The brush penetrates the pores thoroughly but wash it with boiling water each time before use. Rinse your face throroughly after your lather because soap tends to stay on the beard causing buildup, hencing blocking the pores causing breakouts.

I suggest also that the cheapest fix would be to get Clearasil from the Pharmacy and apply it to your zits at night. The zits WILL dry out in time and your skin will clear.

Avoid greasy foods and drink lots of water to flush out toxins. Greasy food causes an increase in sweat and oily sweat can clog the pores even more. .

Secondly you will need to use an astringent or witch hazel to tighten and close the pores after each cleansing.

If you need anything stronger, pl email me: jp@1800jobquest.com and I would be happy to provide names of professional products you can use.

Good luck! Hope this helps.

Your problem is that you are shaving too closely and the skin on your face is sensitive to razor bumps;you need to stop trying to shave. There are two or three options that may help:continue trimming the beard 2-3 days a week, stop trying to shave,or let a barber shave your face.

Sounds like pseudoolliculitis barbae.
1] use single blade razor
2] shave with the grain of hair, not against it
3] don't 'stretch' skin to shave [ twist face, contort lips, etc.
4] use glycolic acid pads twice a day
