last night i was lying in bed with my lights on reading. i started to get really tired and as i was putting away my book i just started zoning out, staring at a wall for no reason. then all of a sudden i couldnt move. at all. i started breathing EXTREMELY heavily, and i tried to move my right arm but it felt like it was moving really slowly.. like crazy slowly... i could move to look at it so idk if it actually moved at all.... i went on brathing like this unable to move for about 5-6 ish minutes but it felt like way longer. (i have a clock by my bed) just after the episode, i was really extremely sleepy but i managed to stay awake. i have been looking into it on google and on other peoples questions but none of them seem the same.. so far ive come up with 3 possibilities:
1 sleep paralysis
2 night terrors
3 i dreamed it... @_@
sorry its kinda long.. i just like to go into lots of detail and i would appreciate it if you would go into just as much detail with your answer

It wasn't night terrors, that's something completely different. It sounds more like some type of sleep paralysis. I doubt that you dreamed it.

It also could have been a panic attack brought on by grief from the stress in your life but I doubt that also. Panic attacks don't usually have the symptoms you describe.

I strongly suspect that you had some type of sleep paralysis experience. When I've had sleep paralysis experiences they are usually accompanied by extreme anxiety. With me, I was unable to move my body at all but was completely awake.

As far as I know, this experience is not harmful although it is extremely unpleasant. I don't believe that they are the symptom of any underlying psychological problem. I had my first experience of this type when I was in my early 30's and my last one was about 7 years ago when I was 57 y/o. I've had, maybe, 5 experiences.

I looked it up a year ago on Google and there was a site where some psychologist was doing a survey and you could read other people's experiences of this. The experiences seemed to vary but no one experienced any negative consequences from them.

I don't think that doctors really know "why" this happens and are trying to make the best "gueses" that they can make. That is why if you read all the websites you will get many different "opinions" of why people sometimes experience this.

If this happens again (it may not) and you can't move at all, I find that trying to move one of my big toes and then after I can do that, my leg, and then more of my body; I will come out of it.

This kind of happened to me once, I woke up and couldn't move for about two minutes ... I've heard Sylvia Brown talk about this, when you sleep you "spiritually leave" your body and sometimes you can wake up while you are re-entering, but to me this doesn't really make sense to me. If you were awake when it happened, and all of a sudden, not like you woke up when it was happening, it could be sleep paralysis like you say, or it may be a medical condition that you may want to go see a doctor about, maybe a stroke, but I don't think that may be likely, but you never know. I can't really tell you what you may have experienced, it depends on you believe in science or the paranormal. But I definitely recommend you talk to a doctor about this, it may or may not be serious ... hopefully it doesn't happen again! That must of been a really strange experience, I almost freaked out when something similar happened to me, I never told anyone about it, until now I guess, but it never happened again. That was about three years ago, when I was twelve, and I don't believe I have any serious medical problems, so it's probably not too serious ... hopefully! Good luck with your answers! :)
Edit: Yeah, it could of been stressed induced. I was really stressed in grade eight, and that's when it happened, so that could be true. Seeing as you're thirteen and have gone through a lot already, probably more than some people may ever, this is a most likely reason ...

That's similar to what happened to me. I couldn't move for about 2-3 minutes and my whole body was trembling uncontrollably. It was right before i was falling asleep. I'm sure I was awake the whole time it happened. Because right after the trembling of my body stopped and I could finally move I jumped right out of bed and ran upstairs. I was freaked out. Didn't go back to sleep the whole night!

There is only one logical answer to this question. GHOSTS!

I'm just kidding. Sometimes before we fall asleep of before we wake up, our bodies will shut off before our minds. I forget what it's called but it has a scientific name. This state is usually when people will see ghosts/aliens/angels/demons. A state like this be induced by extreme stress or through intense meditation.

You'll be fine. Don't let it worry you. It's a natural occurance.

You could be having an out of body experience which usually results from being under alot of stress and being unable to cope with it. But you need to check with your Dr. to be sure its nothing physically wrong with you.

most likely it is sleep paralysis as this is the most common thing that happens to everyone =you could have started to drop off to sleep and not realizing it and that was the result you got
