The essence of a good argument is logic and reason. Pictures that horrify and anger people cause emotional reactions which shut off the parts of the brain that control thinking and reason. When we are experiencing a strong emotion, the body is flooded with adrenaline and the brain is in a kind of a "fight-or-flight" mode. This mode is meant to be temporary, until the danger (or emotional stimulus) passes.

Anyone who injects something into an argument that is designed to evoke these strong emotions is attempting to shut off the ability of the other side to think clearly and formulate their arguments. It's an effective tactic to take control of an argument, but harms any chance of productive dialogue.

I think this is why anyone who would use these types of images is automatically "suspect" in the eyes of the people they are negotiating with......it seems that they are more interested in inflaming people's emotions with their pictures than in swaying their minds with their arguments.

I suppose many operations, if a camera were present, would appear as barbaric.
I'm sure slaughterhouses would be seen with similar repugnance. We just aren't accustomed to seeing graphic displays of blood and internal organs.
If you have a moral position I'm not sure that accepted surgical practices are the route by which you could position yourself.
Many people don't believe that abortion should be used as a form of contraception when they do believe that surgical procedures that remove an unborn fetus should be performed when the life of the mother is at stake; or the child has developed two heads; a brain outside the cranial cavity, internal organs growing outside the cranial cavity and other serious problems in determining the future life enjoyment of both mother and infant.

You should first of all explain your questio better. Simply, abortion is inhumane except in the case when the mother's life is in danger. Do you agree? Therefore I address abortion in terms of no good reason for killing the baby or foetus. It's the same a murder, a selfish choice for uncareful, unthoughtful, unintelligent mothers. If its a result of unwanted pregnancy, or unprotected sex, there is no reason to kill the baby. A grey area is abortion after a female is raped. What's the right answer then?

But to make it clear, abortion nowadays can be induced by drugs, and don't really need the devices used 10 or more years ago.

For myself I am pro-life. I choose to pray that all Mom's keep the baby that God gave them but I would never hold up a sign or try to physically keep them from walking into a building. I would never want to show anyone those pictures or look at them myself.

I had a miscarriage and those images put me right back there. I object because of that and for people like my friend Jen who buried her son Friday. A week before her due date she had a minor accident and her baby died. They wanted her to deliver a dead little boy that they were so excited to love and raise. Women like us don't deserve these images thrown in our faces and I would never want my children exposed to them.

Think of the women that you hurt before you act. You don't know what every one has been through.

It's when the campaigners shove these images in the faces of women going into clinics.
Anti choice people also put false dates on the foetuses, claiming that they are more fully gestated than what they really are.
And another thing - Hitler killed adults and children that were already living. Don't try to guilt trip me - it won't work.

A woman holding up an image like that caused driving home to be more dangerous. She had her big sign in the way so that I couldn't see traffic coming from the other direction. She was so pro-life that she could have cost someone trying to drive their life.

i think about my dad and if his mom had made the choice to abort him we would not have our family. adoption is a beautiful thing that allows children to be brought up in a world where they would be loved by a better family.

scare tactics is a cheap shot at making their point be heard.

As many other people have said, many of these pictures are fakes.

I am pro-choice, absolutely, although I do believe abortion should be a last resort, not for foetuses over 10 weeks and not a form of contraception. Women who choose to have an abortion aren't exactly singing all the way to the clinic - they are the individuals who have to make the difficult choice, not you.

You do realize it's the anti-choice people who post those graphic images, NOT pro choice? Pro-choice are in favour of keeping abortion illegal, why would they post a bunch of BS images that are photoshopped to look "horrific?"

And for the record, the methods of abortion are not "barbaric."

*sighs* Hopeful that Hilary will win the 2008 election. Americans need a Pro Choice Liberal in office.

they object because the pictures are fake. also, most pro-choice people are not like "OMGZ LETZ GO GIT ABORTIONZ 2GETHER LOL". I am prochoice, but I don't think abortion should be used as a form of birth control.
