Becase I have my mid-year exams coming up in the next week, but I am in one of my black hole state of mind. It doesn't last long, but I really couldn't be bothered doing anything. It all seems too hard really. I don't want to fail, but at this rate I will.

How do I get myself to actually sit down and study for more than half an hour a day?

Ah, that's such a familiar story. Denial rears it's ugly head...Okay, here's what I do: think of what my future is going to be after I finish school; imagine how proud of myself I will be when I get the grades I'm actually capable of achieving.

And here's another strategy that helps. Don't study. What!? Are you nuts? Okay, you have to study, just don't do it all at a desk sitting down. You know that half hour you use each day? The first day, use it to read your notes into a recording device of your choice. Use question and answer, lecture review, whatever. Then, the next day, go for a walk with your earphones on, and listen while you walk. Do this for each subject, and walk in a different direction for each review. If you get stuck while you are in the test, imagine where you were when you learned that fact. It's called kinesthetic learning -physical learning.
There is a book called "Becoming A Master Student," you can get at some on-line book stores for less by buying an older edition. It's a great book!

Um, well what helped me was thinking about how pissed my parents would be if I got below a B on anything. Another thing was the fact that I wanted to do well in school so I can succeed in life. Also, what helped me was a study group, not one person , 3+ people who were all serious about school. Not even people I was good friends with, it made it a lot easier.

You need to look at the big picture--what will I achieve by acing this course? The job of my dreams, the college of my dreams, and reach the goals I've set for myself.

I find that writing down what I need to know for exams is the only way to make it stick in my head--sometimes I need to write it over and over, and over.

Think about your future when you are unmotivated to study--your career, your family, your life, your hopes and dreams...
