All of SE Asia is great. Angkor Wat is something that you should not miss. I love the north of Thailand and have traveled extensively in the entire area. I have finally settled in a small Town in Vietnam. Its called Hoian. It is a world Heritage city and no new construction or even modifications are allowed. its like going back in time. The city is rated as one of the 25 best destinations in the world. The people are beautiful and nice. The beach is white sand for 40 k and everything is really inexpensive or cheap cheap cheap. Good Air con hotels for under 10 bucks. excellent food. good beach weather and many interesting places and adventures. I first came to Vietnam because a travel agent said I shouldn't miss it. I booked for a week, stayed for a month. I then wandered around the rest of S.E. Asia for a couple of months looking at everything and trying it all. I ended back in Hoian and bought a really nice house for $15000 US Cant beat it. I really love it here and don't intend to leave any time soon. Sooo. Check out HoiAn, Angkor wat. The beaches of Thailand. Look at Changmai in northern Thai. But don't miss Vietnam. You'll love it.
PS; You should be able to get good ticket prices into Bangkok. Once there you can fly Air Asia, its really cheap but careful of baggage overages. They really sting you and thats how they make their money. Book all your Air Asia flights on the net. We are talking really cheap here!!

Sounds like a pretty good plan. A week in Bali, a few days in Singapore to try the amazing food, and up to KL. I've taken that train ride and it's not bad. Then you will be at Air Asia's hub, where you can go to a ton of places. I would recommend Hanoi. It's one of my favorite places and I can find you some local help. Vietnamese food is also amazing (imo better than Thai) and the people are incredibly nice. Hong Kong is another place I consider a must-see. To me, it's the perfect mix of East and West. Singapore has great food, but it's too Westernized for an exotic Asia trip. Hong Kong also has an incredible amount of natural beauty that most people aren't aware of. Plus, again, the food is great. The best beaches I've found in SE Asia are in the Philippines. El Nido, to me, is paradise. Check out my pictures. Keep in touch if you want more help.

I was robbed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when I visited that country 8 years ago. Myanmar is in a military junta at this time. I guess you need to check your options.
My suggestions would be ... Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnanam or Philippines, Korea and Japan. When you travel from Dec 25 onwards, most of the ticket prices has gone down. So if youre travelling towards the end of December, don't go from first week of December 'til December 24th.

I strongly recommend going to Myanmar, it's not dangerous at all. I wonder if Nadine has ever been there. It's right that there's a lot of political crap going on but as a tourist you won't see any of that. For a great Asia experience and some of the most beautiful sights to be seen in Asia (and even in the world) go to Myanmar.

The cheapest is taking the budget trip by Oasis which goes to Hong Kong. From Hong Kong, you can make your way to Thailand: Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai back to Bangkok or Phuket. Then Vietnam or Cambodia.
Or from Hong Kong, fly to Malaysia then to the Philippines then back to Hong Kong for your return flight to the UK.
Better book early and plan ahead, I suggest you buy and pay your airfare and hotel accomodations as early as August.
Travel light and just shop in the countries that you choose to go to. Watch out for the airline baggage limitations, which are usually 20kilos or even less.
Be safe and have fun!

Sorry to hear about Dave's trip to Malaysia..I don't blame you..my friends were robbed too..;lost passport, cash.belongings..etc..5 years ago..
Friend got a hard time coming back to Japan for applying new passport(not a Japanese Citizen)
YG...
just be careful about your belongings and make extra allowance to get rest for sometime..fatigue could lead to worst..and have first aid kit with you just incase.
make copies of your passport or any importand documents and leave it to the place you stay if you are going out.

the peaceful, nice Malaysia exist only in the east coast peninsular(pahang, kelantan, terenganu) & Borneo. the west coast peninsular are like ordinary America, raping, robbery, and many other crime. i suggest you stay out of them, especially KL, selangor, perak, and penang. if you want to see culture, go to east coast. lots of cheap, local fruits. if you want to see nature, go to borneo(sabah, sarawak) or Cameron Highland(a small state of pahang, fully dedicated to agriculture). there r a lot of national park in borneo. or perhap you want hike up mount Kinabalu, the tallest peak in southeast asia(around 4000m) in sabah.
as a bonus, east coast peninsular is cool in dec becos of the monsoon. it is very pleasant, the sun is shrouded in a layer of cloud, occasional light rain, no sweat, no sunburn. you'll gonna love it in here.

Myanmar is extremely dangerous (the political violence as well as wild animals). I would strongly recommend Thailand instead.
