I'm sure there are such people, and equally there are people who try to claim that a god exists out of self-interest too. Most religious leaders probably fall into that category.

Yes. I see people doing that almost everywhere I go. That's probably one of the primary reasons why people reject Christ, because God's Word is "inconvenient". It's quite interesting, because a lot of things in life are inconvenient. Polluting the atmosphere is inconvenient, yet people do it anyway.
Another possible reason is because people don't like to be proven wrong, or are afraid of persecution. If the Bible says their human nature is sinful, they just reject the whole book. Also if the majority of people in an area are against Christianity, then it takes courage to follow God in such a place, courage against persecution.

Yes! Yes! and Yes! It's all about choices nowadays, and God who is the ultimate authority, not a democratic governing body simply gnaws at the core issue of what they think is freedom! Therefore they choose to be 'good' on their own terms, and figure if there is a God he will accept them in the end because they were 'good.'
It's a win, win, situation provided by the deciever and bought by the unbeliever.
Though they have no control over their soul after death, they think they will be able to argue their case with God if he does exist. As if God were open to suggestions on what's right and what's wrong. It's sad really, but like the devil, they choose to do things their way and ultimately will retire where he retires.
Sad isn't it? They think they we are brainwashed, but in the last day it will be them who find out they were brainwashed in unbelief.

Many people still are unaware of what sin actually is and what it feeds upon (and the cost, as well). The human mind is the sinner and hates God. So it is easy to see how many, who love the human experience, will not part with it to find spiritual truth. The harder the earthly life becomes, the easier it is to part with misconceptions as to what life really is and what spiritual law is. But sin kills the sinner every time. In modern language we term this a lose - lose situation. Time will prove all this to those who don't get it right now.

I believe that to be true in some ways. If people have to say there is a Creator then they have to admit that they are sinners as well- I think some believe that if they deny, or try to deny the existence of God, then confession and repentance does not have to be apart of their lives, and they can go along living just as they were before. If there is a Creator, and if He is God Almighty- which I totally believe that He is- He is also Holy, and if we are to acknowledge Him then we have to admit our sin.

I'll put it this way:
There are definitely different flavors of atheists (just as there are different types of believers, WITHIN a denomination)
Some atheists seem to "logic" their way through everything and somehow arrive at the conclusion that they only need their mind and self to get by.
Others are simply to tired to have faith (sometimes it is REALLY hard, you must admit)
And YES, I think it only makes sense that there are atheists that choose their disbelief because of a combination of lacking faith as weel as convenience
Every religious person who has every held themselves back from something out of Faith in God, knows how "fun" life could be without that One to hold you back

No. People have constantly changed their perceptions of gods to fit with the current 'norm'. How many old religions have been relegated to myth? The catholic church has changed their position and accepts the Big Bang and evolution. LeVey's flavor of Satanism came about from a hedonistic standpoint.
The reason that most people attempt to disprove gods (all of them, not just one), is simple: they are logical impossibilities.
Someone may deny the existence of a god, due to how they want to live, but to attempt disproving one requires more backbone.

Of course. sin hates light, Christ Said I am the Light of the world. If you do not "believe" in a creator then you are free to do as you please, or at least that is what you tell yourself. I think of the death bed, it may be a different story. I can not imagine not having my Lord at a time of great lose, or when it is my time. I know he will be there to lead me home, just as he has many of my loved ones.

Absolutely!
People don't like the thought of giving up their pleasures in life...myself included. There came a time when i had to make the choice to receive Jesus as my Saviour and then my Lord..I'm very happy i did, but it was only through a crisis in my life that i knew i had to change my life-style...what i didn't know at the time, the only things i gave up were the things that were destroying my very being..and my loved ones around me. What a great question....

I sure do think so. They are afraid to believe because of the lives they live. They don't know how or want to give it up, although I bet some feel it is wrong in their heart and still won't confess to believing in God.

That is an idiotic question. If someone believed in the god of the christian bible, that person would probably be too afraid of going to hell to worry about lifestyle conflicts.
Atheists don't believe in gods -- not just the christian god -- because there's no evidence of the existence of any of them, yours included.
Atheists don't care about someone's "personal experience" with a god. People of all religions have them, each with their own god. Atheists don't care about "I just believe," because that's ignorant. Atheists want proof, or, at the very least testable evidence.
