It's very good that you're using sunscreen.
It's a combination of things.
First of all, if your only using sunscreen and not sunblock then yes, your skin will get darker - as you tan. You just won't burn as fast.
Secondly, the actual chemical that makes it "sunscreen" is in a lotion base so as you are saving your skin you're also moisturising it. This will also make your skin appear darker.
You are going to get darker when you're in the sun unless you use a complete sunblock but that's not a bad thing.
Those ebony princesses are very beautiful :)
Oh, and don't forget to put some conditioner in your hair that also has some sunscreen to keep it from frying - or a wonderful hat.

Sunscreen protects the skin from burning in the sun. The # on the bottle indicates the length of protection time (the higher the better). You need to put sunscreen on BEFORE you head outside and re-apply it (when depends on the # on the bottle).
AND yes, black people can get sunburn. Their skin gets darker (like white people do), although it takes longer. And, if they are not wearing sunscreen they will get darker and then eventually get sunburned (like anyone else), although the darker toned they are, the longer it takes.

Sunscreen doesn't make any one become darker. Its the UV rays of the sun that darken the skin color. Sunscreen blocks the UV rays. If you don't want your skin to be darker use a higher rated sunscreen and apply it more often. You could always just cover up.

it shouldn't do that to you. sunscreen just prevents harmful sun rays and helps to prevent cancer.
