This is about hope and undoing some of the messed up answers above.
Sometime Christians ask;
"Have 'faith' in this!" and really we had a hard time believing it let alone having faith in it.
At this point I understood there is a difference between faith and belief.
I could have a hope in something but not really believe or have faith in it. Such as .......... I just moved into a new place and could hope the power company will be there to turn the power on as scheduled. I can hope for this but if the power company in the area I live is unreliable then for them to be there is merely "hope".
If the power company is reliable then I can have "faith" because they always or 99.9999 percent of the time meet their obligations.
Either way I am a customer in good standing and I can "believe" they want to sell me power.
A Christian that has faith has achieved a state of subjective understanding that is called faith. This is the reliance on God as they have experienced God.
This may or may not be through a religion.
Faith is not hope and is not belief but religionists and theologians do not really do a very good job of explaining these. Matter of fact they confuse people!!!
Peace -C

My take on it is that
FAITH is basically is the strength within that affirms that something is true even if you may not have proof
HOPE is the feeling within that keeps you holding on to that which you believe in.
For example, faith is more firm than just "hoping" in the way you say "I hope the cruel will be punished."
When you say "I have faith that..." you are in a way stating that you KNOW/BELIEVE.
Hope results in perseverance.
I "have faith" that this will help :)

Faith, hope, and love are at the heart of the Christian walk. Our relationship with the Lord begins with faith, which helps us stand fast in the newness of life as we're delivered from our pasts. Hope is what we cling to as we grow and learn all that God has for us. Faith and hope go hand in hand. We can have hope and faith in the Lord. We might not see all our hopes/dreams, but we can have faith that the Lord always gives what's "best" to His children.

There is no right or wrong religion. The religion needs to be based off of how it makes you feel. If you are uncomfortable when in the religions enviroment then it is not meant for you. Do some research and find out what you believe. The only way to have hope or belief is to know what you are bleieveing in is best for YOU. Do not worry about what other's may think or feel. They do not matter. It is about you and what you feel and think. Trust in yourself and your decision will flow to you. Just do some research and find what makes you feel like you belong to it and that it fits you and your beliefs. Good luck.

Hebrews 11: 1 states, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
So I'd say the answer to your first question is a definate "Yes."
As for your second question, just hoping for something doesn't automatically make it true, but neither does it automatically make it false, either.

No, faith is knowing without the added benefit of physical proof. I believe even though I cannot see. I have faith in God because I know him to be true. I don't hope there is eternal life...I know there is eternal life because I have faith.
Hope is more like positive thinking.

Faith is the confidence or trust in something while hope is just a wish for a certain outcome. I don't hope my religion, christianity, is the right one. That's not even what it's about. I have faith in God that he will guide me during my walk with him.

Well yes. Because "faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for." In a study of the bible, prophecy was fulfilled, promises came true ... a certain generation, for instance, saw the "PROMISED" LAND. Ask yourself this question. You have a dear, dear friend. That friend has never failed you. Everything bit of advice was sound. He'd tell you if you do this thing ...things would go well and they did. If you do that thing, things will go badly and they did. Would you doubt that same friend's word if he told you other things yet to happen?

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Faith is a spiritual tangible....Biblical Hope is not related to it's modern counterpart. Hope is substantive and is reality... a sure thing.
Very good question..

Faith is not believing we know...faith is knowing we believe!
If you are certain of your beliefs, and have faith in a higher power as you understand that power to be....then you already know the answer to your own question.
I know that in my beliefs, we all have life lessons to learn, and we will continue to come back to this earth until our souls have learned all of the lessons of life. It is then that i can be one with the divine.
I do not hope for punishment or reward for others...i only hope that they learn the life lessons they are here to learn. it was told to me that it is ok if i empathize with someone...but i am not to pity or sympathize, for i do not know what their life destiny or lesson is to learn this lifetime.
I hope you find what it is you are seeking.
Blessed Be
