Has anyone ever heard of breaking the tip of the tattoo needle off so it doens't hurt so bad? I thought that the artist that did my first tat told me he did, but it seems that nobody else has ever heard of such. Does anyone know if this is true?

Thinking about this logically, any attempt to "break" a needle would likely force the needle off the bar - solder is just not that strong to be messing with the needles.

Also, single needles are not used a lot, therefore the tips of each of the needles in the grouping would have to be "equally" altered. It just makes no sense, and there is no earthly reason to. Broken or barbed needle tips mess up a tattoo pretty badly.

First off this would hurt so much more than the sharp smooth tip of a needle would. Secondly, you would have a crappy tattoo. Have you ever seen one that was done by a scratcher with a bent, or resused needle? They basically mangle the tattoo.

Hopefully your artist is smarter than that, unless you went to a scratcher, then stupidity is expected.

The tip of the needles need to be sharp to be able to penetrate the skin cleanly, a broken needle would just make a mess of the tattoo, the sharper a needle is, the less it would hurt, easier penetration, less resistance, and thinner lines with a sharp needle.

You have to be kidding me.........come on, it's common sense
that a dull or broken off needle would hurt worse. Maybe you
misunderstood what he said or he was joking.
