Garytomson2006,
Linux is completely free, its what is called Open Source / GNU Public License. Which means that you can view / edit any part of the source code, which lets you change anything on in the operating system legally. Their is several distributions of Linux, the most popular being Ubuntu. Ubuntu is very simple to set up. You can go to http://www.ubuntu.com and download the newest version (They even include free support for two years!). They have both a server version and a desktop version. If you aren't quite sure if you want to make the change over to Linux, then you can download the CD image and then burn it and boot your computer from the CD and it will boot right in to Linux. If you are satisfied with it then you can install it with that same CD. It requires minimal Linux knowledge and takes you step by step in a graphical interface. The only downside to using Linux is that you can't install Windows Applications without a third party program like Wine, you can download Wine from http://www.winehq.com (make sure to get the Debian package if possible). Their is several alternatives to your office applications. The most popular one is OpenOffice 2.0, Ubuntu comes with this pre-installed. If you need to do photo editing you can download The Gimp from http://www.gimp.com it is a very powerful photo editor. Their are several other programs that are for Linux that are free too. I hope that I have helped you and that you do decide to use Linux. Good Luck!

Yes the whole OS it is open source that means that people can't charge for it. When you see it in a store you are not paying for the OS but instead the tech support that comes with it or the services. The OS is completely free, anyone who sells it usually has a free copy of it on there internet page.

Best two sites:

www.isohunt.com
or
www.torrentz.com

You will need to download 'utorrent 1.6' free from the yahoo search engine though first.

Hope this helps.
