There is no way to answer this question without knowing your budget.

The 2007 Chevy Corvette puts out 400hp and gets 18 city/28 hwy mpg, but most 19 year olds can't afford to drop $45k on a car, let alone pay the extremely high insurance.

About the bare minimum kind of car I'd consider sporty would be the Mazda3 with the 2.3 liter engine, which goes for around $20k brand new.

Anything less than $20k and you're looking at fairly bland economy cars like the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, or poseur cars that look sporty but don't really drive like it, such as the Scion tC or the 4-cylinder Hyundai Tiburon.

Research the cheapest (ie: safest) model to insure. At your age insurance will kill you unless you get something with a high safety rating. Even then, you'll pay more until around 25, if you have a good driving record.

Good Luck

It all depends on how much your willing to spend. Is this for you, or your son?

Infiniti G35 coupe. This is basically the street legal version of the 2007 nissan skyline (which is illegal in North America).

Honda Preludes are always great.

Acura Integras, TL, RSX.

Misubishi Lancer, Lancer Evo, and Eclipse.

Id also strongly recommend you look into
1991 Nissan Skyline and 1991 Nissan Fairlady 300zx.

Id also stay away from American cars. Sure they're cheaper, but they're also garbage. They are trying to compete more and more, but JDM (japanese domestic market) cars still destroy them.

i think a 2001-2004 honda accord will be nice, because they're really easy to maintain, and the price is very affordable

1994 - 1997 Volvo 850.. Cheap to insure... parts can be a little pricy, but there are ways around that. They are very safe and reliable.
