I was wondering about Romans 10:17:
So then faith [cometh] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Does this scripture apply to deaf people or people who are all alone and unable to hear the Word of God? What if they study the Bible intently every day? If they are unable to hear, can they still grow in faith?

I guess what I meant to say is can "hearing" be accomplished through reading?

Your dimples are showing now, aren't they?
The Bible is the word of God through which they hear. All of us are told to bear witness, not just the few we herald as our leaders. We are to take the words of the Bible to all who have not heard.
We are fishers of men, not catchers. The Holy Spirit will guide our feet down the right paths. He will lead to us those who are to be saved.
Our lives are to be an example at all times of Christ who lives within us. The example of the Bible we have hidden in our hearts will shine for all to see.
Let others hear us with their eyes, their ears, and their hearts.

Yes you can grow in faith if you cannot hear or see for that matter. God would never put us in a position where we could not accept his message. This scripture applies to all people. Remember the bible was not recorded until well after the messages were given to the people. The first Christians were brought to Christ through the spoken word. Now that Jesus has returned to Heaven we have been given the bible for communications from God. We have prayer to talk to God.

Hearing is not the important clause in the verse, but the "word preached." Exhortative exclamation of the gospel is what the Spirit has mandated as the changer of our souls. So, a deaf person could "hear" the word preached in sign language, or read a transcript and I believe it would satisfy the intent of the verse.

Greetings!
Yes they are able. Because when scripture mentions hearing, it's about hearing spiritually not physically and it is the same for seeing. There are a lot of people out there who hear the word physically and do not hear it spiritually and so it doesn't touch there heart. This is why Jesus says the sheep know the sound of my voice. I hope this answers your question.

Yes. You know what that Scripture is saying.
Deaf people who can see can read, blind people have the Bible in Braille. You can be alone and learn of God. Remember those during the pioneer days didn't always have a Church to attend but they had their Bibles.
There are many resources (through Christian organization and Churches) for those who really want to learn about God's Word.

They listen to their heart, don't you know our body is also temple of God, so God is everywhere and inside everyone, if they have faith in God and read the Bible they will hear God's word even they can't actually hear

the New Testament bible say that when Jesus was on earth he opened the ears of the hearing impaired so that they will be able to hear... and after that, the first disciples of Jesus also did this and other miraculous signs...
so maybe somebody would need to be used by God again so that today these same people may be able to hear. but if they can read, they can also "hear" the Word of God inside them...

I think that hearing in this case is The Holy Spirit working inside of you telling you what to do! We had a pastor once who called this your knower! In other words when the Spirit is telling you something you know what to do!

The quote really has nothing to do with physical hearing.
Kinda the difference between listening to someone and actually *hearing* them. You can *hear* without the sense of hearing.

faith is strengthened by hearing the word of God..it has nothing to do with being deaf,,,although, if one is deaf, reading and meditating on the word of God would produce the same results,,,,,seek God, and you shall find him
