I know most of you don't, at least not often. But shouldn't you show up -- just in case?

Chuckle. Drink up, y'all; I'm an atheist, not a believer.

You're assuming they haven't. Actually, you're thinking of what is called a "weak atheist". This is a person who lacks belief in any gods because they haven't been convinced there are any.

This does not mean they haven't looked. It just means that you are unconvincing.

Well, at least you have some courage in laying off the atheists.

In answer to your question: Is there going to be a lottery?

No, seriously there is some truth to that question/answer. An agnostic believes that a belief in [insert popular religious adjective here] god is completely arbitrary. IOW, I could feel just as good about going for a hike, building a pyre, and praying to spent snot! So, now I ask you, why wouldn't you DUPLICATE this ritual with me, JUST IN CASE? Can I assume that you don't do this on a weekly basis?

What about something a little more reasonable. Why not take your own rituals into the forest or the wilderness or the beach, where you could be close to God's Creations? Too PAGAN for you?

My props to you for elevating the debate, however! Good luck in your next question!

Look at it this way. Let's say God did exist, but you didn't know. So you were going to church just in case, just to save your butt, even though you didn't really believe everything. When it comes to the time where God puts you in heaven or hell, do you think he's going to reward some sniveling fence sitting hypocrite? No. But luckily for you, there is no God, so the worst thing you're doing to yourself is wasting a perfectly good Sunday morning.

I did go to church and that is why I am agnostic. I was a die hard Christian and was told to read the Bible. Unfortunately I was not convinced. In fact the Bible contradicted itself many times. I actually researched it historically and used a Bible Atlas and concluded that the big man in the sky is not logical until proving otherwise. I need physical evidence. I am not talking about emotional and or empirical evidence. I want physical evidence because the Bible Theory is not logical.

Well, since I believe in a different form of 'God' than the churches do, the only other attraction is the socializing and that's no attraction...

I might go to a Methodist church though because they are nice. They baptized me. Very sweet.

I raise my glass (again) in tribute to Pascal's Wager.

*drink*

Thanks, I needed that.

I'm not agnostic (I'm atheist), but showing up at a church and hearing some shlub in a Brooks Brothers suit yell about how his god needs money would not constitute proof that such gods exist. I fail to see how an agnostic would benefit from such an exercise.

You are suggesting that by attending church, we will find out that God exists. I went to church as a child and it didn't convince me. Just in case he sends me to Hell for not going to church? Sounds more like a strict parent than a god.

Let me ask you something...

What if you didn't pick the right belief system?

Does that mean you should check out some other churches, temples, and pagan rituals just in case?

If people believe in the power of their convictions... then they don't need to seek things elsewhere.

I truly cannot afford it.

I can't afford to put my hard-earned money into a system that demands that I believe the unbelievable.

If the god of the old testament existed, why is Fred Phelps still alive?

Because I would go to synagogue and not church! Just in case? Okay, the first drink of the day!
