If you don't have them neutered this is always going to happen. Intact male cats spray and it smells terrible. That's one of the reasons it's so important to neuter male cats.
You'll need to persistently use an enzymatic cleaner to get rid of the odor. You MUST get them neutered.
Even after you neuter them they may continue to spay since you've let them become mature cats before getting the job done- the good news is that their spray won't be as smelly after they are neutered.
Have them neutered and give them some time for their hormones to level off before making the decision. It's not their fault. They're just being healthy cats.

The need there bits off. It is marking their territory. Mine did this for a while. I washed all the sofa covers and cushions, and even the curtains. While these are washing go to a pet shop and get this thing called odour spray, its in a big white bottle and has a cross eyed cat on the front. Spray all of your couches and chairs till they are wet through, maybe your curtains too. I also sprayed all over my carpets. It smells nice to us, like marzipan. And it works. If the area is heavily wee'd up, repeat the process of the spray until it has gone. This spray worked magic for me. Also clean the litter tray every day for a while with fresh litter. Good luck. It worked for mine, hope it does same for you.x (cats must be neutered though or they will do it all the time)

To help prevent spraying then get them neutered. Also make sure you clean up all cat pee. Turn off the lights and get a portable black light. It will show you where the dried pee is so you can properly clean it. This may take a while but if you love them dearly like you say you do then you will take the proper steps to fix this problem instead of just putting them down. By the way I doubt any good vet would put down your pet just because you want them too.

The problem is that the cats have not been neutered. Intact males constantly pee and spray their territory.
Get them neutered as soon as you can. Whether you keep them or not, If they have been peeing etc for two years, the only way you will get the stink out of your home is to have all carpet and padding torn out. Then the floors will need to be professionally treated before new carpet and padding are installed.
It would be unfair to put the cats down as they are only doing what comes naturally. Your mistake was in not having them neutered. However, if you don't want to keep them, take them to the shelter so that they can be given to new owners.

Ok fella
Frankly not to be unkind but this is entirely your own fault for not getting them fixed pratically the momment they were old enough & serves you darned right too! That's just neglegence. Plus now that they're at those ages it's set rather firmly in their behavior pattern. it'll be some work and you matnever be able to undo the damage that YOU did by not fixing them ASAP. The only reason a cat or dog should ever be still intact at that age is if they are licience breeders. Even then I admit I dpon't approve.
Then to suggest destoying them to get out of the consiquences of your mistakes what that say's is you are imature, Irresponciable and unworthy of having pets. You really don't deserve those little fur people. Shame on you!
If you love them as you say you do take them to the shelter and at least give them the chance to get fixed and loved and raised by somebody who has the brains patiace and compassion to do it properly.
Sorry to come down so hard on you but I know way too many animals who's lives are ruined because their owners lack even the rudimentaries of common sense.

You already know the answer. Have them neutered. The day they are at the vets having their operation you can get to and scrub the entire house from floor to ceiling to remove all trace of the smell. Do not use bleach or household cleaners as this will just leave traces of a smell behind. There are products that are genuinely odourless and that will remove the odour from furnishings. Get them. And yes, stinking of cat pee at work sucks. I had a cat who peed on any item of clothing I left lying around because he was so neurotic about staking his claim on me in the face of competition from other members of the household - long story.

First, get them neutered. This will solve most of the odor problem, if not the behavior. It may not stop the marking entirely, but should reduce the impulse. Second, find out what is causing them to pee and remove the stimuli (as much as possible). Spraying is a behavioral issue, and it can be addressed. This may involve replacing carpet or some wood trim, but you'd eventually have to do that anyway.
If you can't (or, it seems, won't) do this, find someone to adopt them or a no-kill shelter which can find a new home for them.
The cats are peeing all over the place because YOU didn't bother to get them fixed. And now you want to kill them for your oversight. Please don't ever get another pet if you're not going to take care of it.

Good God NO!!! don't have them put down PLEASE!!!
they aren't peeing they're spraying!!! you got 2 male cats and they haven't been fixed so they each look on the other as a rival for the attention of the lady cats!!! If you get them both neutered/spayed then you'll find it'll calm down........
As for the smell if you're in the uk go to pets-at-home if you have one near you, they sell a ready mixed solution for accidents etc. and when it dries it smells like almonds so that should help get rid of the smell for you -- (if you really don't want them after that get in touch with cats protection they'll take them and find them a new home for you) -- Hope it works out!! :-)

Spraying is marking behavior, not a litter box problem. Sprayed cat urine contains pheromones, a substance that animals use to communicate. Combinations of pheromones work like fingerprints: they identify the cat.
A spraying cat marks his or her territory with cat urine. It simply says: ‘This is mine’. You may not like it, but getting angry doesn’t help. It may even have an opposite effect: more spraying.
Cats in heat are attracted by the odor of cat urine. For them, spraying is something like an invitation to love. The results may be there in 65 days: a nest of cute little kittens.
Cats do not only spray during sexual encounters. Some also do it during conflicts with other felines, or when they are stressed.
Therefore the most effective thing you can do is neutering or spaying your cat.
If you don’t know why your cat sprays, discuss it with your veterinarian. Chances are he will advice you to spay or neuter. But your vet can also check if there is a medical problem.
Anyway, do not leave this problem unsolved. Cat urine odor and stains can make your home a very uncomfortable place, and your cat will still remain a cat even when it doesn’t spray anymore.

You have this problem because you are an irresponsible cat owner and have not had your male cats neutered. Most people know that males spray urine all over the place if you dont have them neutered. You've taken on pets knowing nothing about them at all. Get them both neutered - you are obviously working (your work colleagues must be delighted to be working with you!) so you can afford it. Get to the vet.

As has been said already, get tem neutered. If you are in the UK, you can get vouchers from cats protection towards the cost. The is something called "Simple Solution" that contains enzymes & friendly bacteria that actually "eats" the pee and will get rid of the smell completely. I would advise you to have them rehomed as you don't sound like the sort of person that deserves to have animals anyway.
