It clearly is not for the convenience of having the ice cream available at all times, etc. as some have suggested, because there are a deplorably small handful of companies (Haagen Dasz and Breyers for example) who do not use these ingerdients, and you can get their ice cream any time, anywhere.

I am not worried about consuming either chemicals or plant additives. I eat what I like and rarely worry about such things. This is a matter of: it tastes nasty!

The guy who thought you might want to buy ice cream 365 days a year, day or night, at your convenience, without having to make it yourself. You eat vials and flasks of chemicals at nearly every meal, at least the ones that you don't cook. That's okay, right, but it is also how come your body no longer rots after you die.

I am in agreement with you. I love Breyers...theirs tastes the best without alot of that stuff in it.

But...these are all plant based food additives. They are not chemicals. They give food texture and consistency. Some people are sensitive to them, but it is rare.

I am not saying they are good for us to eat or beneficial....i am just saying there is alot worse out there.

It is probably to make the ice cream firm and keep it from melting too quickly. But have you tried making your own ice cream? Yummy. It was a tradition in our family to have homemade ice cream on the 4th of July. Probably will have it this year too. I love it!

The best ice cream doesn't have all of these stabilizers. But you can buy them from Bob's Red Mill, online or catalog.
