I'm trying to fly to San Diego to see my sailor. A friend in the army said that he would be able to buy my ticket using his ID so I could get the discount. Is that true? Alot of websites say that I wouldn't be able to use it because were not married yet. I'm about to die from being away from him so long so any help would be great. He can't leave so I have to come see him...and unfortunately for me i'm having financial problems. Thank you!

to be perfectly honest.. the military discount is off of the regular price.. which people NEVER pay. use the sites like travelocity or priceline to get better deals. I AM a Navy spouse and the discount is useless 99% of the time

there are no discounts or deals for you as a mere girlfriend.

Military Discount Flights

Mrsjvb is right. Most airlines don't offer a military discount and those that do the price of the ticket is generally more expensive than a regular civilian like yourself would pay. Last summer when my husband and I were looking to buy tickets back home, 6 mths well in advance, one airline told us they didn't have a military discount, the other quoted us a price and it was actually more than I could get them for on a website such as travelocity or orbitz. My suggestion to you is to just keep searching for a discounted price on a website or try standby which is much cheaper. Good luck.

Dude, as with any discount, everyone asks for proof. They will ID you. They might also ask to look at the credit card that was used to purchase the ticket. Don't go thru what I had to:-

Back in the 80's I booked an airfare with my credit card. The next day I mis-placed my wallet, and in my panic, I immediately called the credit card company to report this card as lost. I found my wallet about an hour later, then called the card company, only to be told "no worries, a new card is being sent in the mail". Well, to make a long story even shorter, I never got my card until AFTER I got back from my trip. Needless to say, at the airport I told them that this was on a military discount fare ($159 round trip), showed them my ID and checkbook. Still to them this was not good enough as they wanted to see my credit card. There was no way around all thier "policy", and I ended my re-purchasing another FULL FARE ($280 round trip). Since then I have vowed never to fly that airline--eventhough it was partly my fault.

Hope this helps.

Just fly Southwest. They're regular tickets are cheaper than most airlines military discounts. Plus they have a mil. discount, which I have taken advantage of many times and never was asked to show my military ID.

The only people entitlted to a military discount are folks who've been issued a military ID card. That includes people actually enlisted in the services and their dependants. If you don't have a military ID card that matches the passenger's name on the airline ticket, then you won't be able to use the military discount.

I wouldn't chance it, look for deals on-line. Even with my ID i get problems because I'm not the service member. Also sometimes you can find better rates on-line then through military rates (for me its 1100/ ticket through military discounts, and under 1000 going through orbitz)

I am really feeling old now. We HAD to travel in class A's or you did not get the discount.

To answer the question in legal terms you would be committing a fraud were you to to what you described. Calif. Bus and Prof. Codes rates that a class f felony. Why chance trying to get the ticket from an agent that is having a bad day.

If you do not have a gov't id in your name you cannot get the mil discount. However, most of the time when you get the discount it is off the normal fare and you can do better by getting a 21 day fare the majority of the time.
