today i went to the bathroom, but only to urinate and when i stood up i noticed a very small, string like thing.. it looked like stool but very small then there was blood on it . there was not blood when i wiped though on the toilet paper..it was just on the stool. it was also kind of mucusy. my stomach has been bothering me lately, but i figured it was just stress due to finals and an upcoming dance recital. this has never really happened before and i dont know if i should be concearned. the blood wasnt really bright red but it wasnt too deep in color either..and it was only a small amount. please dont just tell me theres something wrong with me and to go to a doctor. should i just wait to see if it happens again? thanks.

GO TO A DOCTOR!! Blood in the stool, no matter the color is NOT a normal thing.Your other symptoms lead me to think Celiac Disease.
While this is not a colon specific problem, its an autoimmune disease in which a person cannot digest gluten, a protein in wheat, rye and barley. Untreated Celiac Disease can lead to polyps, colon cancer, diabetes, raynauds disease and a slew of other secondary autoimmune diseases! See your pediatrician and ask for the blood test for Celiac Disease (visit my links for specific blood test to ask for) and if u have CD, then u start the gluten free diet and your symptoms will cease and yoru body will start to heal.

BUT it could be a sign of something else. yes it could be hemorroids but it could be colon cancer, polyps, IBS, IBD, etc etc.
if it is truly a hemorroid u can heal it by changing your diet and using stool softners but I HIGHLY suggest seeing a doc before something goes wrong. Better safe then sorry!!! :)

Please feel free to email me for more help privately! You do not have to suffer in silence!!

I was told that if the water turns pink, it's an emergency. A small amount of blood can safely be ignored for a few days, but if it persists or gets worse, do see a doctor. Any amount of "coffee grounds" blood is serious, too. Anal fissures are the most common cause of very small amounts of red blood; they may go away on their own or need treatment, but it's not serious. A lot of red blood could be a sign of cancer or ulcerative colitis, both very serious, but you'd be seeing a lot more blood within a few days in either of those cases.

Monitor to see if this happens again. Bright blood is usually from hemorrhoids, external or internal. If you have a large amount of blood or black tarry stools see your doctor. If the stomach pain does not go away when the stress resolves also see your doctor. Also if you do happen to take pepto bismal your stool will turn black, so if you need to use a liquid stomach medicine use something else.

It especially concerns me if your stomach has been bothersome lately.
