stryker_matt, that is the problem. I can't ignore it. It is wrong. Military personal are bigger pigs than the police. When they are in my neighborhood I make it known they are not welcomed. It is wrong to treat us like criminals any other time but then feed us with the bullshit like we are an important part of society now so we can go kill other poor people. Killing to birds with one stone is what it is.

Personally?

I flip off any military recruiter I see. They're the scum of the earth in my opinion. There is NO reason to go meander about when EVERYONE in town knows where your massive, patriotic-screaming recruitment station is. If they can get out in public, they can get to your office if they're interested.

I had one guy try to talk me into joining the military. I told him to cram it up his a$$.

Evidently you have not seen the presence of military recruiters on college campuses throughout the USA or have ignored the fact that a large component of our military forces on the ground are being brought from National Guard units all through the USA.

There's nothing wrong and everything right about recruiters seeking qualified personnel from poor neighborhoods, in fact, it's a wonderful opportunity for these kids who have little or no hope of pulling themselves up and out of the ghettos. What possibly could be wrong with that?

I doubt that the casualty statistics per 1000 is any worse in the military than it is amongst the kinds of neighborhoods where drive by shootings are killing and maiming youngsters everyday.

There is every reason to look favorably upon this practice as it is another form and means of making real men/women out of people who are otherwise destined to continued poverty, welfare, drugs, murder, organized gangs and all that's seen in the ghetto streets.

Moreover, it makes sense to comb these neighborhoods because there are many more homies hanging around steet corners, so you go where the recruitment opportunities will produce the largest return on investment. That's just smart planning.

So, yes, the tactic makes sense to me.

Look, there is nothing wrong with this recruiting technique.

Military service has long been a way for poor people to gain experience and rise through society. In the past, many sons of poor families actively sought out a military career so they could get more educaiton and experience. It is very beneficial for many.

One of the reasons you don't see recruiters in rich neighborhoods is that most of the young men are in college. The recruiters are on campus looking for people who want the unique challenges of working in the military. Many opt for this. They can get experience there that is impossible to reproduce elsewhere.

Of course I approve. Recruiters have quota's they have to make every month. If a recruiting station does not meet their goals they start getting held accountable, to the extent that if it goes on too long recruiter get sent back to combat units or out to a ship depending on their branch. It is a statistical fact that middle class areas have more walk in recruits. Combined with College visits, job fairs the recruiter has quite a bit of business. Also consider that we usually try and send recruiters back to an area as close to their home as possible. That way the recruiter can get out into communities that they are familiar with. Odds are that technique was how they met their recruiter or that is just their comfort zone. The recruiter is just a job. He has to try and get a certain number of new people in based on the population.

I dont really understand your question. It is my impression that in the "ghetto" there are many dope addicts, dealers, felons, and the high school drop out rate is awful. Do you think this is the kind of person a recuriter want's to recruiter? Even the ones who did want to get out would have a tough time getting into the military, they don't take just "anybody". So maybe your over reacting a little to much.

My business currently takes me thru all types of areas 5 days a week 6000 miles a month for the last 5 years and I have not seen a single recruiter on the street.

Going back to my corporate road warrior days I don't recall ever seeing any military recruiter working on any street.

Maybe it's one of the 14 states I've never made it to. I've seen Recruiting Offices in a mix of areas

Ya know, I just got looking at the some pages of some of the fallen soldiers. It was a random sample of about 30 from both wars. Can't tell their financial background, but 20-25 included pictures and were white males. The others did not have pictures and therefore I don't know their race.

The military is a good place to get a good start on life, particularly when one includes the college money they get for 4 yrs of service.

Y E S, That is a perfect marketing tool used by the
US Military, but most of the people who are in the
US Armed Forces today are middle to upper middle class and well educated, some are college educated and working to keep this country
free of the terrorists who would like to kill as many Americans as they can and this is a fact!!!!!!

Recruiters are assigned by prospective candidates, this is done by what was done the previous fiscal year. I guess you have been in every poor and rich neighbor in the country and are an expert on recruiters? If you are telling recruiters they are not welcome in your neighborhood then you don't care about your country, you only care about the crap you see on TV. It is people like that are leading the U.S. to its downfall. Thank you.

The only time I have seen a recruiter anywhere outside their office was either to visit a school, or to call on someone that contacted them first. To be honest, I don't really watch recruiters all that closely.

I do ROTC recruiting. Guess what? I go to High Schools with a high percentage of college bound students. I go to a lot of private high schools. Most of those kids are upper and upper middle class.

Why do I target them? Because I am trying to show numbers and I prioritize by what gets me the best results. You can accuse me of trying to kill off your rich kids now.
